CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WEDNESDAY: We preview Wednesday’s games between MONACO v MAN CITY and ATLETICO MADRID v BAYER LEVERKUSEN with a recommended BETDAQ bet in both.
MONACO V MANCHESTER CITY
7.45pm Hopefully this is just as good as the first leg! City lead 5-3, but looking at the way both sides defended that night, a two goal lead looks barely anything and we can expect plenty of goals tonight. The market isn’t quite sure what to expect either if the match odds are anything to go by – at the time of writing Monaco are 2.64, City 2.62 with the draw 4.0. We haven’t seen such a close market in the Champions League for a while!
The market may find it hard to spilt the sides, however based on their home form – Monaco should be favourites. They’ve only lost once at home in their last 11 Champions League games, so the City lay at 2.62 will appeal to many. However they have been banging in the goals for fun at home domestically too, scoring 19 in their last six. Another key point might be the goals conceded, in those six games Monaco only conceded once – so maybe they might be a bit more solid at the back tonight than the last time!
It’s very tempting to lay City at 2.62, but in what should be an exciting end-to-end game, we’re happy to take a chance and back Monaco at 2.64.

ATLETICO MADRID V BAYER LEVERKUSEN
7.45pm While many would have been expecting goals between Monaco and City, not many would have been expecting a 4-2 scoreline in favour of Atletico in the first leg of this tie, especially given how many clean sheets Atletico kept in the Champions League. After the game, Leverkusen sacked their manager Roger Schmidt, so maybe we can expect a slightly improved Leverkusen – you always get a bounce after a manager leaves. The odds at the time of writing are” Atletico 1.66, Leverkusen 6.0, while the draw is 4.3.
It might be appealing to back under 2.5 goals at 2.24 given the way that Atletico usually go about things in the Champions League, however Leverkusen have to attack here to stand a chance of going through, and we feel that Atletico will pick them off on the break. Atletico haven’t been beaten at home in the Champions League knockout stages since 1997! And this game seems ideal for the way they play on the counter, so the 1.66 on Atletico looks just about big enough to back.
