RIVER FOR ELLIOTT: SHAMROCK looks ahead to the opening race at Ballinrobe tonight with a NAP in the opening novice hurdle.
Dorans River seemed to show improved form on his first start for Gordon Elliott when winning at Downpatrick last time out but it’s also possible that he’s a better horse on better ground too.
Like tonight, it was good at Downpatrick where he stayed on strongly to beat Penance by three and a quarter lengths. It probably wasn’t a great race but a significant improvement on his previous two starts at Limerick and Punchestown where he was pulled up on both occasions on more testing ground.
Blast Of Koeman won a maiden hurdle at Limerick and then ran a cracker in a Punchestown handicap hurdle finishing second to Magic Of Light – beaten just a head. Fridaynightlights was back in fourth that day and there should be little to choose between the pair again.
Act In Time was the easy winner of a Killarney maiden hurdle last time out but this is much tougher.
