TUESDAY IPL: The Edge previews Rajasthan Royals v Lucknow Super Giants with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Rajasthan Royals v Lucknow Super Giants
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The IPL continues on Tuesday as Rajasthan Royals host Lucknow Super Giants in Jaipur on Betdaq Betting Exchange . We are firmly in the business end of the group stage now, and the playoff picture is tightening by the day. This is a game with two different stories for the two sides – Rajasthan Royals desperately need the points in a bid to get back into a playoff place, while Lucknow Super Giants have nothing to play for as they sit bottom of the table. It’s been a pretty joyless season for them, and surely Rajasthan will be viewing this game as an excellent chance for a win. They suffered a gut punch defeat to Delhi Capitals at the weekend, and now they’ve lost three on the bounce.
That loss now puts Rajasthan in a position where they need to win both of their remaining matches and hope other results go their way to book a playoff spot. The season has been a real tale of two halves for Rajasthan. They looked absolutely set early in the tournament – genuinely one of the teams in the mix for those all important top two spots. The batting has been the standout feature: Yashasvi Jaiswal has been superb all season, while the teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has taken the tournament by storm too but the middle order has badly let them down in my opinion. For Lucknow, the season has been a nightmare from start to finish.
The table doesn’t lie – four wins from twelve games is desperately poor for a side with this level of talent. The issue has been the bowling for Lucknow; it has simply leaked too many runs all season, and Rajasthan will be hoping that continues here. Lucknow have already acted as party spoilers recently against CSK, can they do it again?
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
This is the last season of the season at Jaipur and it’s been a very high scoring venue this season. Obviously Rajasthan don’t have all their home games here anymore, but we’ve had three games all with the first innings score over 200. The first inning scores have been 228/6 (chased), 225/6 (chased) and 229/4 (won). The boundaries are larger than most IPL grounds, with the straight boundary around 75 metres and square boundaries around 72 metres, but that doesn’t really matter when you get a heavy dew. The dew factor at Jaipur is an important one under lights, and it heavily favours the chasing side. Historically, teams batting second have won over 60% of matches here, and in general we do get quite a heavy dew here.
RECOMMENDED BET:
The market reflects Rajasthan’s superior quality and their do-or-die motivation – they should be clear favourites here and rightly so. However, the 1.72 doesn’t exactly jump off the page as value considering that I feel the toss is very important here. As I said above, Lucknow have already acted as the spoilers with CSK recently, and they come into the game in better form than Rajasthan at the moment. I expect a heavy dew here, and that will favour the chasing side – I’m happy to wait for the toss here and back the chasing side – I feel that will be the deciding factor.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Given the dew factor at Jaipur and the historical chasing advantage at this ground, I would lean heavily towards the side batting second here. The pitch does offer something for the seamers early, but once you get through those first few overs we have very batting friendly conditions. Obviously we have two sides here who you can pick holes in – Rajasthan have lost their last three and Lucknow have been poor this season. I do feel we’ll have the conditions for a very high scoring game here, but I would just reduce stakes considering both sides have their flaws. This is a game for the batters over the bowlers!
