NAPS RUN ENDS AT FIVE: SHAMROCK’s run of winning naps which included a 6/1 WINNER came to an end yesterday. A Roscommon nap tonight.
It wasn’t such a happy ending yesterday to the run of naps when Happily finished second, ending the winning run at five naps in a row.
So much for me thinking the Debutante Stakes was a match between Aidan O’Brien’s Happily and September. I was right about the O’Brien bit but stunned to see his third runner in the race Magical pop up at 11/1.
11am update: ROSCOMMON ABANDONED
Roscommon stage an eight race card tonight on soft ground and Himmah should finally lose her maiden status in the opening maiden at 4.40pm.
The Kevin Prendergast trained runner has built up a frustrating form sequence of 7222 but has bumped into some very useful sorts along the way including September at Leopardstown. Given she is now Group class, there was no disgrace in Himmah’s five and a half length second at Leopardstown in June.
This looks a very weak event and I’d be hugely surprised if she doesn’t go in – especially as she has form on soft ground.
It’s a hard task trying to find a credible opponent from those who have run so it might well be the debutants who do best of the rest but Himmah sets the bar high.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP Himmah (4.40 Roscommon)
