KEEP UP WITH THE GAMBLES: Shamrock yesterday spotted the early Betdaq run on 12-1 forecast Irish raider Sovento (WON 15-8), successful by a neck at Lingfield. Call up the Daq offers and check out the closers and drifters in the Movers column.

It won’t be the gamble Sovento was. But Nanna Maura (12.50 Sedgefield) can continue the run of Irish raiders on English meetings today.

It’s tight at the front of the market – four horses are separated by a few decimal points, as I write – but ‘Nanna’ has been racing in much better company, including behind weekend sensation Sous Les Cieux at Fairyhouse three weeks ago.

Monnow Made and Lucia Bay are much of a muchness on their placings at Wetherby, a neck apart, and Hannah Jacques is looking exposed, though has the experience of second in handicap company last time out.

Nanna Maura’s stablemate Kingsmoss (1.20) looks up against it off topweight but is over at Sedgefield to get some good ground; outside chance if the rain stays away.

He has to give a stone to the Don McCain mare Alexander Road who, on the face of the form, looks a heavy-ground animal, but she’s had a breathing op and any amount of transformation is possible.

I shall take Irish-bred Baltic Pathfinder (2.20) to improve on his second in this race two years ago; he was also runner-up over CD off 10lb higher last autumn.

Soft-ground Cork sprint winner Wellmarked (12.00) should appreciate the surface of Southwell’s turning sand track.
