WATERLOGGED AYR HAS TO BE CALLED OFF: The Ayr Western Meeting with its triple Cup races of gold, silver and bronze, has failed to start after waterlogging on part of the track forced day-one abandonment. There is an 8 a.m. Friday inspection. Tomorrow’s forecast is rain so they may try to save the Saturday features.

THAT’S THE BEAUTY OF BETDAQ BETTING: Daqman’s staking plan worked out for the second day running yesterday when, after Mutaaqeb (WON 3-1) at Yarmouth on Tuesday, Beautiful Morning (WON 9-4) kept him afloat yesterday. If you took 5.5 offers on BETDAQ in the morning, then you had beautiful value!

GABR GETS SUPER-NAP STATUS

2.00 Yarmouth Gabr should buy us money for the day with a super-nap 20 points win worth at least 50% profit this morning (1.52 offers) . Should be suited by a mile and soft ground.

3.25 Pontefract Declan Carroll and 7lb-claimer Ger O’Neill won this last year at 14-1, defying a wide draw. They have the exact same (I’m a tautology lover) situation here with Save The Bees a CD winner who has a stinging record of 35 times in a place (12 wins) from 86 starts.

The favourite Ludorum has had only three starts but looked professional the way he squeezed through a gap to score at Ripon on the last day. He was 3.6 on BETDAQ this morning and Save The Bees 7.8, a nice pair against the field.

3.35 Yarmouth (Summer Staying Series Final) Four horses trek from Welsh Wales for this, presumably sharing the diesel for the 576-mile round trip with class 5 and 6 winners and a maiden in a class 2.

It don’t make sense, as Lord Sugar would say (yes, The Apprentice is back soon, still full of failed claimers, no doubt).

In fact, the connection between Wales and Yarmouth is that three of the four have raced in qualifiers for this series at Bath. That makes even less sense to me.

But, having now looked through the form for the entire field, they are all posers! This is a class-4 race at best being run as class 2. Neil Mulholland’s pair are a selling plater and a steeplechaser. Neil trains near Bath.

Ok; I’ve got the hang of this now. Bath donkeys masquerading as racehorses are taken to Yarmouth sands.. Sorry, that’s as far as I’ve got.

From a punting point of view, the trip (1m 6f) and ground (softish) might weed them out. It suggests Affair, Dukinta, Innoko and With Pleasure, who all have something else in common, They’re all winners at Bath, of course!

I’m a fan of David Egan and, if you take AW form out of Wassail’s CV over the last year, the filly is 3102 stepped up to between 13 and 14 furlongs. But she’s been five times withdrawn, four of them when the going was soft.

The drying day at Yarmouth (they’ve got sunshine!) could bring her into it, despite 15.0 on BETDAQ. But I’m discarding another AW blip, and making eight-lengths Bath winner, Dukinta as first choice, to defy offers of 11.0.

ALQAMAR CAN SCORE IN BLINKERS

4.10 Yarmouth That fake class-2 stayer’s final, a handicap over 1m 6f (presumably transferred from Bath) is now followed by a handicap over 1m 6f. Class 2 even! It’s a race of hopefuls in first-time blinkers.

The only class-2 winners in the race are the old boy Great Hall and the four-years-younger Zenon, who tailed off at Goodwood on the last day so has to bounce back in the newly-fitted blinkers.

Great Hall and Alqamar are weighted to run a dead-heat after their one-two at Ascot earlier in the month on soft. Great Hall is bidding for a hat-trick but is up two furlongs and a total of 8lb.

When I watched (4.2 offer) Alqamar get pipped that day, I noted ‘next time in blinkers.’ Well, blinkers are on for the first time today with Charlie Appleby 3-7 in the last two days. Nadaitak (8.8) is also blinkered first time, following too many place-only efforts (four out of five).

Theydon Grey’s hat-trick seems to have been down to his affinity for York and the indulgence of his opponents who allowed him easy leads. At least he might help with the pace this time.
