DAQMAN PICKS HIS ACE RIDER OF THE MODERN ERA: Daqman applauded yesterday’s champions in a Monday memento of master jockeys. But what does the old pro-punter do now that he’s lost the great men on his side? Here’s how he sees the riders of today, and not just because he ‘found’ Enable at 25-1 does he mark down one man in particular as the modern ace.

ENABLE WILL RETURN TO DEFEND HER ARC TITLE: Good news today for Enable fans. She stays in training to defend her Arc title in 2018. Meanwhile Daqman seeks out more big BETDAQ odds on a daily basis.

WE’RE LUCKY TO HAVE FRANKIE

Dettori is one of the aces. It really was hard for this punter to take as, one by one, I lost Carson, Piggott and Kinane from my precious pack of trusties – riders you can rely on – so I’m grateful there is this one ace left. Frankie.

No jockey can come without the horse. But some can’t be guaranteed to come WITH the horse. When Dettori is on the best, the Italian is the best of British and beyond.

Moore plays poker well in a tactical race but often gets lost in a crowd, when a Spencer is needed, timing a long run to perfection.

De Sousa has looked a picture in a short period of time. Buick and Atzeni can be expected to play a stronger and stronger hand, with time on their side. The young Oisin Murphy could be a future champion, providing he plays his cards right.

Read across: jockey, age, birthplace, style, year they started, best horse for me.

A: Frankie Dettori 46 (Milan). Fabulous flair and confidence (1986) Enable
A: Ryan Moore 34 (Brighton). Conserves a horse’s energy (2010) Gleneagles
A: Silvestre De Sousa 36 (Sao Paulo). Judgment of his mount’s ability (2006) Farrh
B: William Buick 29 (Norway). Unbeatable from the front (2006) Nathaniel
B: Jim Crowley 40 (Ascot). Enduring journeyman (ex National Hunt) Ulysses
B: Andrea Atzeni 26 (Sardinia). Fitness and drive (2008) Postponed
B: Jamie Spencer 37 (Tipperary). Pace perfect in a big field (1996) Fame And Glory
B: Paul Hanagan 37 (Warrington). English champion twice (1998) Muhaarar
B: Pat Smullen 40 (County Offaly). Nine times Irish champion (1993) Vinnie Roe
C: Oisin Murphy 21 (Mullingar). Quickly shown the dedication (2012) Hot Streak

THIS IS FIBONACCI’S NUMBER..

1.50 Leicester Alan King has had five winners from his last seven days’ racing, and Just In Time has shot up nearly a stone in the last three weeks. Jockey Martin Dwyer is 2-2 in this race.

But can Martin drop in and defy the stats on this hold-up horse coming out of stall 6 of seven. Six of the last eight winners were from gates 1 or 3, and only one in the decade has carried less than 9st.

I prefer 5.8 BETDAQ offer Fibonacci, who started life a year ago in one of the hottest maidens of last season, won by Cracksman with Stradivarius just in front of my selection. Trainer Hugo Palmer has a 33% strike rate at Leicester.

It is noticeable that Fibonacci came good on the last day when encountering soft ground. Andrea Atzeni, who rides him now, will remember the race. He was trying to make all when Fibonacci came by.

2.00 Catterick Hugo Palmer also means business here with Forest Dragon, employing Josephine Gordon (3-6 at Catterick) and applying first-time cheekpieces to the Teofilo filly. Tasty 11.5 on BETDAQ early mouse.

2.55 Leicester This is poor stuff for a class 2. Only Indomeneo (sixth of eight at this level on AW) and Statuario (trailed in a Group 3) have tried anything above class 4 or 5.

Eve Johnson Houghton reached her first-ever 50 with a double yesterday and Statuario beat nothing well on the soft at Chepstow. But it could be the case for a debutant against this lot; Andrea Atzeni again, and 7.4 on BETDAQ.

He rides Noble Expression (BETDAQ 6.0), whose breeding (by Sir Percy out of a Selkirk mare) exudes soft-surface form, and trainer Roger Varian beat my hot nap Ortiz with a newcomer at Kempton yesterday.

HE’LL MAKE SHORT WORK OF THEM

3.35 Catterick The handicapper doesn’t seem able to stop Short Work, and Daniel Tudhope, who is 2-2 on him for David O’Meara

3.55 Leicester I was ready to dismiss Minotaur’s form figures as a load of bull (!) – a horse now best followed over jumps – but Jonjo O’Neill is in top gear with four winners from eight starters in four days up to the weekend, and Minotaur loves the mud. Huge at 12.0 on BETDAQ.

Marcus Tregoning (Dancing Dream) is 2-3 in the most recent winner flow of his late-season flourish, though Dream was dossing well behind Blakeney Point at Newbury.

Front-runner My Reward is well in with Soldier in Action (5.6 offers) on Chester form but Soldier, a winner at Goodwood and Epsom, will enjoy the Leicester undulations.

4.10 Catterick Silvestre De Sousa, currently striking at 71%, takes over on First Quest (3.6 taken on BETDAQ), who just missed out here over further here in September. Ed Dunlop is another trainer enjoying a late-season revival.
