WORLD CUP PLAYOFFS: We preview Thursday’s games between NORTHERN IRELAND v SWITZERLAND and CROATIA v GREECE with a recommended BETDAQ bet in each.
NORTHERN IRELAND V SWITZERLAND
7.45pm What a night ahead for Northern Ireland! There’s no doubt that the atmosphere will be buzzing in Belfast on Thursday night, they really need a good result here if they are to qualify. Switzerland finished level on points in Group B with Portugal, their only loss coming against Portugal in Portugal in the last group game – prior to that they had actually beaten Portugal at home, and breezed past everyone else in the group. This will no doubt be a really tough test for Northern Ireland, however they have a superb home record.
They’ve only lost two games in their last 15 at home, one of those coming recently against Germany – however we can forgive them that one! They faced tough sides like Czech Republic and Norway here in the group stages, and we feel that they can stop Switzerland winning tonight. Switzerland are currently trading 2.32 which looks very short against a side with Northern Ireland’s home record, and we have to consider too that these first legs can be very cagey affairs – the Switzerland lay really appeals at the odds.

CROATIA V GREECE
7.45pm Both these sides came through quite close groups (for second place), with Greece edging out Bosnia And Herzegovina by two points and Croatia finishing three ahead of Ukraine. Croatia’s group was no doubt the more competitive of the two, however they would have been very disappointed not to top it. Belgium would have been expected to top Greece’s group, and Greece would have been delighted with second – they really had a superb record at the back and it was only conceding six goals that got them through.
Looking at the stats, this won’t be as easy for Croatia as the markets think. They’re currently trading 1.45 which looks short against a side who only conceded six goals in the group stages, albeit they have home advantage. As we noted above, these first legs can be cagey, and which Greece may come to defend, Croatia will more than likely find a way through at some stage given the quality they have in their side. However it’s going to be hard work, and with under 2.5 goals trading 1.65, that looks to be where the value is for this one.
