DAQMAN STILL KING WITH 6.2 NAP: King-of-the-tipsters Daqman struggled over fences yesterday but a brave All-Weather nap at 6.2 on BETDAQ saved his Boxing Day at Wolverhampton. He raised the stakes to win 30 points from best-of-the-day King Of Nepal (WON 11-4 SP).
20-1 SHOTS FOR LEOPARDSTOWN: Daqman has a 9-4 lead over Pricewise of the Racing Post in the search for value, and is 27 points clear (+09 against –18). They clash today in the 1.50 and 3.00 Leopardstown, where Daqman posts two 20-1 shots.
HI HO SILVER! HE’S JUST THE LAD
12.45 Kempton Alan King – three wins in this in nine years – saddles Redicean, a one-time Irish Guineas hope for Peter Chapple-Hyam, and winner of a 1m 6f Redcar handicap on the soft for David O’Meara.
Haulani seems to have a preference for good ground, and Salix solitary success in France was at 106-1. Will need to show big improvement for the burgeoning yard of Ben Pauling.
1.15 Leopardstown Champion Chase hope Min should be a Daq Multiples banker.
His Gowran Park win in November was described as a ‘tremendous return’ by an excited Willie Mullins.
1.20 Kempton (Wayward Lad Novices’Chase) Top rehearsal for the two-mile championships, won by Sprinter Sacre, Simonsig, Dodging Bullets and Altior.
Shantou Rock slammed The Unit nine lengths at Newton Abbot and this race should suit him.
It was a small field in which Paul Nicholls’ Tommy Silver ran second at Bangor but winner and third have both won since. I took 3.8 this morning.
REAL THREAT TO MENGLI KHAN
1.50 Leopardstown (Future Champions Novice Hurdle) The cards are on the table here. Willie Mullins lays down four to try to trump Gordon Elliott’s Royal Bond winner Mengli Khan.
Paul Townend picks Real Steel, who needed only hands and heels riding to score at Thurles, even though he had praised Sharjah after the partnership scored at Gowran.
In theory, the Mullins quartet can take this tactically and Real Steel looks the value over an easing Mengli Khan, who is exposed to a river card from the Mullins camp.
2.05 Wetherby (Castleford Chase) Pain Au Chocolat, around 11.0, has always kept good company. He was only five lengths down when making a mistake in a match with Tingle Creek winner Politologue at Kempton in the Spring and more recently was runner-up here over this CD at Wetherby to a horse that’s scored again since. He holds Duke Of Navan on Spring form at Perth.
Movie Legend has won three small-field races out of four, with his latest win also over the Wetherby CD.
POLITOLOGUE AGE ADVANTAGE
2.30 Kempton (Desert Orchid Chase) Special Tiara has won this twice in three seasons ((split by Sprinter Sacre) and won the Champion Chase at the age of 10 in March.
But, after the demise of Bristol De Mai yesterday, I’m hoping that Politologue steps in as my find of the season.
We supernapped him for the Tingle Creek, when he beat Fox Norton a tad further than did Special Tiara at Cheltenham. Politologue faces the champion at level weights, but in receipt of four years!
3.00 Leopardstown Only one winning favourite in the decade and winners at 14-1 (twice), 20-1 and 33-1 (twice), which seems to warn against getting on board the Squouateur bandwagon (backed in fromt 7-1 to 4-1). Like Polidam, has never been placed at this kind of trip.
Oscar Knight, badly hampered in the race last year, has had a sharpener over hurdles but is 6lb higher this time around.
Tony Martin has had a shocking season so far but J P McManus’s 19-5 offer Anibale Fly (‘hidden’ by running over trips too short) is quite capable of this if he has him on song.
Troutown and Thyestes placed last season, Bonny Kate was third in the Ladbrokes Troytown on her return last month and is a big price, at offers of 23.0.
Phil’s Maguc, General Principle and Pleasant Company have all gone well in top handicaps but are well exposed
STAGE SET FOR THEATRE HIT
3.05 Kempton Harry Fry went to Kempton with abysmal recent form yesterday and proceeded to land a double. Sir Ivan ran 13 times over more than two years without scoring but is now two out of three for Mr Fry. Who would be a tipster!
Pilgrims Bay beat last year’s winner of this race when they met over the Kempton CD in February but his winning form is on a sound surface.
Brandon Hill landed back-to-back wins at this time last year but I fancy 6.0 offer Tintern Theatre, a hidden horse in that his jumping problems have all been at Cheltenham, and he could bounce back for his in-form yard on this flat track.
