AN 11-4 NAP AND 5-1 BIG HANDICAP WINNER: Daqman has carried the baton of a great Jumps season over to the Flat, tipping two winners at Epsom yesterday including an 11-4 nap in the Derby trial. He is 15-3 up on Pricewise in their value challenge and 76 points clear to a single-unit level stake (Daqman +31.00, Pricewise –44.75).

WON 5-1 ROYAL LINE (Great Met)
WON 11-4 CROSSED BATON (nap, Blue Riband Trial)
2ND 14-1 MAN OF PLENTY (Punchestown)

CAN GORDON FIGHT BACK AT SIX-HIT WILLIE? Man of plenty yesterday was Willie Mullins, who hit a hurling score – a veritable six at cricket – felt by layers on both sides of the Irish Sea, reaching a first double century as he overhauled trainers’ title leader Gordon Elliott, notably with Bellshill in the Coral Punchestown Gold Cup. How does Daqman see the action on Day 3?

13.5 SHOT THREAT TO ELLIOTT BAG

3.40 Punchestown The stats say young horses (aged four to six) below 11st. That takes us straight to Park Paddocks, who made April Fools of a 15-strong Cork field by 16 lengths.

The Flat-bred, who started life with William Haggis, is related to a Guineas-placed colt and was immediately reckoned ideal for summer ground, say at Galway.

But the 8.4 BETDAQ offer has improved again at home and could lead the Gordon Elliott fightback at the very first opportunity this afternoon.

Western Ruler (14.0 offers) hit form as soon as he went handicapping, and is a typical stamina-laden Mouse Morris sort, related to a Liverpool Grand National runner-up.

PAPA WILLIE HITS STRAIGHT BACK

4.15 Punchestown Bon Papa, value for a bull’s-eye bet at 6.8 on BETDAQ this morning, looks set to make an immediate response for Willie Mullins, as a Punchestown winner who was the ‘moral’ only a grade below this when dropped back to today’s trip.

That race was at Leopardstown, when he gave 10lb to the winner, beaten only a length and a half with some of these behind.

THE FAVOURITE UNDER ORDERS

4.50 Punchestown (La Touche Cup) Last year’s winner of this had raced in the Ladies Perpetual Cup on the banks course earlier in the week.

Just Wait And See won the Perpetual on Tuesday, hanging on well as he was challenged right up to the line.

But runner-up Blue Templar had been fully 24lb off Josie’s Orders when Auvergnat beat them both here at Punchestown (3m) in February.

Second home in today’s race last year, Cantlow, split Bless The Wings and Josie’s Orders at Cheltenham in December.

At this 4m-plus I just prefer Josies Orders on stamina. He’s won at Punchestown and scored three times over 3m 6f at Cheltenham.

Josies Orders was very strong in the market this morning, taking top spot in the BETDAQ orange at around 4.0, as if expected to have a going day.

PENHILL RATES SUPERNAP STATUS

5.30 Punchestown (Ladbrokes Champion Stayers Hurdle) Jezki was one of two back-to-back winners of this for Jessica Harrington (2014-15), which ended a five-in-a-row sequence for Willie Mullins.

In his belated double bid Jezki is surrounded by seven Mullins starters, including the Cheltenham Stayers’ Hurdle winner, Penhill.

Penhill had won the Albert Bartlett the year before, just failing to follow up at Punchestown in the Grade-1 novice hurdle.

He’s officially a 22lb better horse now, and is my supernap of the day at 3.2 BETDAQ offers this morning.

HELLO! IT’S 17.0 GOODBYE VALUE

6.05 Punchestown Winners are under the age of seven, as was Minella Awards last year, 8lb worse off now with the six-lengths third, Screaming Rose.

But Paul Townend prefers Ainsi Va La Vie (‘that’s how it goes’), as 12.5 offer for Willie Mullins behind Gordon Elliott’s favourite, Pertemps Final runner-up, Glenloe.

Ainsi Va La Vie is a hidden horse, back at the right trip today, and with his only poor run at 3m when a small field at Limerick ran nearly a minute and a half slow.

Also ‘hidden’ is 17.0 offer Last Goodbye. Didn’t like Cheltenham but a value chance here for yesterday’s winning claimer, Adam Short, on their February success at Leopardstown in a 22-runner field.

FOOTPAD HUB OF YOUR MULTIPLES

6.40 Punchestown (Ryanair Novice Chase) Un De Sceaux and Douvan won this as part of a Willie Mullins hat-trick, which could become four today via Footpad, who beat Petit Mouchoir in both the Leopardstown Arkle at Christmas and the Cheltenham Arkle in March. Willie wins again on the day.. that’s how it goes, Gordon!
