14.0 WINNER AND 33-1 RUNNER-UP AT 10.5 THE PLACE: Huge BETDAQ offers gave Daqman two winners in one race yesterday when Calyx was the first leg of a double with the Punchestown Gold Cup supernap, Kemboy, and the runner-up, No Nonsense (2ND 33-1), was backed at 10.5 a place. No Nonsense was 52.0 in the morning BETDAQ orange, which also offered 14.0 about the Queen Anne Trial winner, Zaaki (WON 9-1). Daqman’s May Day feast:

WIN ZAAKI WON 9-1 (from 14.0 on BETDAQ)
WIN KEMBOY WON 13-8 (supernap, Punchestown Gold Cup)
WIN CALYX WON 1-3 (Daq Multiples with Kemboy)
WIN NO NONSENSE 2ND 33-1 (from 52.0 on BETDAQ)

CALYX LOOKS A REAL SMART COOKIE

I’ve been grumpy about the Gosden plans. Now all is revealed. If John Harry Martin Gosden hadn’t switched Calyx to the Commonwealth Cup Trial yesterday, I might have had a 33-1 winner. Thanks, John.

Seriously, if No Nonsense had won the race without Calyx in the field, he would probably have been about 14-1. As it was, I had 10.5 a place on BETDAQ for his finishing second, so I’m happy enough.

And I shall post Calyx as my first Fortune Cookie (for the Commonwealth Cup itself) and No Nonsense as my second, though I’m not sure he’ll be up to winning the Jersey Stakes, as the pundits are suggesting.

‘A work in progress’ was the way David Elsworth talked about him, and another synapse in my punting brain was hoping he wouldn’t destroy his chances of a decent handicap mark for one of the big 6f sprints.

So it was that I have been having these ups and downs of faith in Godsend all the time since Too Darn Hot went cold and Calyx switched from Newmarket to Ascot. I may have another ‘hidden horse’ for you, as a result. Watch this space on Saturday!

BERCASA IS TODAY’S BEST OUTSIDER

3.40 Punchestown Four-year-olds are going for a hat-trick in this handicap hurdle but have to rely solely on Bercasa.

That may be no bad thing the way Tom Mullins’ filly hacked up in a big field three weeks ago, with the trainer talking excitedly about getting some black type for her. This would be a fair step forward in that direction.

Has touched 14.9 and 12.5 in fluctuations of interest on BETDAQ. I’ll stake my claim at 13.0.

4.15 Punchestown Snugsborough Hall (around 4.0 BETDAQ offers) might have landed a hat-trick had he not been carried out when joining the leaders at Fairyhouse recently.

Moon Over Germany was clear when landing the Red Rum Chase at Aintree, and this pair may be up to holding off the English challenge of Croco Bay and Bun Doran.

They should finish close together now at the revised weights after their one-two in the Grand Annual and Tom George reckons Bun Doran can get his revenge with Croco Bay hardly liked to score back to back at age 12.

4.50 Punchestown (La Touche Cross Country Chase) Win number 15 in this is on the cards for Enda Bolger (Josie’s Orders Punchestown form figures are 122211 still standing) with Jamie Codd on Sizing Coal the danger.

NOT MANY CAN BE LEFT OUT OF THIS

5.30 Punchestown (Ladbrokes Stayers Hurdle) The race is usually won by a rating from 163 to 169 but there’s nothing like that here today. Only Bapaume touches 160, after his fourth in the Cheltenham Stayers behind Paisley Park. Runner-up in the Galmoy before that, he has a tongue-tie first time today.

Bacardys ran well in the Cheltenham race, first show of decent form since he won the Champion Novice Hurdle at the 2017 Punchestown festival, the race won last year by Dortmund Park.

Aux Ptits Soin won a Grade 3 at Aintree on good ground and has been kept to a decent surface though, of course, won the soft in his native France, where there is rarely any choice.

Vision des Flos has faced strong opposition in the last six months, from the likes of Wholestone, Buveur d’Air and Brain Power. Never showed in the Coral Cup after an early mistake and it could be his turn at 10.0 on BETDAQ.

Not Many Left (a 9.2 offer) was third in the Pertemps Final and the ground will suit. Cracking Smart is a 3m winner who likes plenty of cut.

Unowhatimeanharry won this race in 2017 and took the Ladbrokes Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury in November. He’s 11 now but dangerous to overlook.

Cracking Smart was in with a shout in the Coral Cup until close home and is freshest of them all. I took 12.0 on BETDAQ.

DUC TO FOLLOW DOUVAN HOOFPRINTS

6.40 Punchestown (Ryanair Novice Chase) Un De Sceaux and Douvan were among Willie Mullins five winners of this in the last six seasons.

Seemingly only Philip Hobbs has a worthwhile chance of stopping Mullins strong trio here with JLT winner Defi Du Seuil, though that one has never taken a chase shorter than 2m 3f

Duc Des Genievres is at the front of the market for Mullins, rightly so after his dramatic Arkle win (Ormua 14-1 fell), though will this be a tough enough test of stamina.

Chacun Pour Soi was very impressive at Naas in March though, barring a modest third at Enghien three years ago, he hadn’t been seen since November, 2015.

Voix Du Reve beat nothing well at Fairyhouse 11 days back, but Us And Them was runner-up in both the Leopardstown Arkle and the Cheltenham Arkle.
