10-1 HIT MAKES DAQMAN’S DAY OVER PRICEWISE (17-7 UP): Daqman’s bid for a John Smith’s repeat yesterday after last year’s 14-1 winner didn’t happen but he paid for the rest of his bets with Make My Day (WON 10-1) and goes 17-7 ahead of Pricewise in their value challenge (284.50 points the difference between them).

ROBERT PAPIN AX TO FALL ON LIR JET
1.35 Chantilly (Prix Robert Papin) It’s the strange case of the disappearing French two-year-olds. We need Inspector Maigret of the Surete to tell us where, how and why they’ve vanished.
Only two run in this premier test for juveniles, matched by two from England, Michael Bell’s The Lir Jet (Oisin Murphy) and Richard Hannon’s Ventura Tormenta (Christophe Soumillon).
The Lir Jet is likely to start odds on, as winner of the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot on similar good-to-soft ground (Ventura Tormenta sixth).
But subsequent results from the race have been poor, and the French have decent credentials in Axdavali and Tiger Tanaka.
Axdavali (Pierre-Charles Boudot, generally 4-1), a seven-lengths winner at Deauville, then ran second in a Group 3 at Longchamp, while Tiger Tanaka is unbeaten (3-3) in the French Provinces.
BETDAQ 16.5 OFFERS ARE ‘MADNESS’
⭕ 2.30 York York form at York is an old adage, and there are home runs today from Copper Knight (100011310 on the course) and Duke Of Firenze (00121001000).
The Duke looked on the way back the last day but is 11 now. Danzeno is three times placed in big handicaps at York but is nine, and could probably do with dropping a couple of pounds.
Copper Knight is 4lb better off with Makanah for a short-head defeat at Newmarket in June, and Makanah is also 6lb down on Arecibo, who beat him in a York finish last summer.
Strictly on the book, Arecibo should win it but is only 1-20 in the last two years, notoriously difficult to win with.
I fancy well-handicapped front-runner A Momentofmadness, who has the ideal partner for showing them the way home in William Buick. Should be on the ball after three runs this year.
Far too big at 16.5 on BETDAQ. Should be 10-1 at most. I had a Bull’s-Eye Bet staked as if 10-1, which gave me 5pts win at 16.5 for 27.50 bonus.
IN CLOVER! 30.0 FOR BETDAQ PAY-DAY
⭕ 2.50 Newbury (Super Sprint) A double-figure draw has won every year since 2012, and the usual suspects among sprint specialists win it.
It’s been a pinstickers’ race recently, but types with a bit of class form like Windsor Castle fourth Get It and Queen Mary fifth Happy Romance have done well, notably Queen Mary runner-up Tiggy Wiggy (2014).
I’ll go for a Happy Romance (BETDAQ 5.4) but have a pound on Tom Clover’s Soldierpay (at 30.0 offers this morning). Strong speed merchants on both sides of the pedigree and has struck form quickly after being gelded.
⭕ 3.25 Newbury The one stall is going for a hat-trick and has had four winners out of seven! Only those seriously hard of hearing will have missed the ‘whisper’ for Global Giant, and be lapping up the 3.75 in BETDAQ Sportsbook.
Frankie Dettori’s only mount of the day from that very stall one is a Shamardal who has blossomed late and is expected to step up to Group level in the Pattern.
VARIAN RAIDER ROSEMAN IS VALUE
⭕ 3.25 Chantilly (Prix d’Ispahan) Persian King (Pierre-Charles Boudot), last year’s French Guineas winner and Chantilly Derby second, was back to form on the last day at Saint-Cloud but is drawn wide in 8.
Derby third, Motamarris, is probably his main danger again, but Roger Varian’s Roseman was a good fourth in the Queen Anne and beat Century Dream last season.
Sottsass, who stopped Persian King and Motamarris in that 2019 Derby, was beaten at odds on, two lengths behind Shaman in the Harcourt in May.
The form a dizzying pattern? If you want a second opinion, how about this. The Racing Post’s ratings are 126 Roseman, then all on 125 Century Dream, Persian King, Shaman and Charles Hill’s Royal Hunt Cup third, Pogo, with Motamarris 122. Ounces between at least four of them.
Motamarris and Shaman are likely to contest the lead, and Roseman (around 5.5 this morning), unlucky in the Queen Anne, might be ready to fly the Kingman flag now.
JUST IN TIME TO GRAB BETDAQ 20.0
⭕ 4.00 Newbury Ralph Beckett did me a good turn with Make My Day and Moon King, who completed a five-timer in this month last year, raced over a trip too far at Ascot and is back in his element here.
If I desert Themaxwecan he’ll probably go and win it, but still looks high in the handicap. I was Just In Time to nick 20.0 on Alan King’s prolific scorer.
May need the run but would kick myself more than the Max if he won without me! I’d taken 9.8 Moon King.
