GAVIN CROMWELL: Brand Ambassador Gavin Cromwell previews his runners and their chances this weekend at Tramore & Dundalk.

It was really pleasing to see Ruinous put it all together and win on chase debut at Downpatrick last Sunday. He was given a nice patient ride and won pretty well in the end. Hopefully he’s one that can keep on progressing over the bigger obstacles this year.

Tramore on Friday

Friary Gold and Yeats Mardy both line up in the handicap chase (5:15pm) and the former would probably be the pick of the two. He won a hurdles race at Killarney two starts back and was then third on his first start over fences last time out at Roscommon. He remains in really good form and he’s probably our best chance of a winner over the coming days.

As for Yeats Mardy, she was a little bit disappointing on her reappearance at Bellewstown, but she’s had a nice break and can hopefully get competitive with Conor McNamara taking off 5lbs.

We’ve got Railway Hurricane entered in the maiden hurdle (5:45pm), but he’s third reserve so we don’t expect him to get a run, while Moonball goes for the mares handicap hurdle (6:15pm).

Hopefully we’ll get a bit of rain on Friday as she wouldn’t want the ground to be too quick. She did brilliantly to win first time up after a two-year absence and was then second last time out too. She’s also a course and distance winner here, so with a bit of a rain and a nice run we think she could be the one they’ve all got to beat.

Dundalk and Tramore on Saturday

Our first runner on Saturday is Ahthatsgrand in the fillies maiden (12:55pm) at Dundalk. Winning a maiden is a big ask for her at this stage and we’re just hoping for a solid effort. She’ll have longer term targets in nurseries and handicaps next year.

Also at Dundalk we’ve got Crystal Dawn in the six furlong handicap (1:25pm), but she’s got a very wide draw in stall 16. That will be tough to overcome at this trip, but we fancied her last time when she ran well in a big, competitive field at Cork and we like her chances again.

We then have one in the evening at Tramore where we field Pretty Fantasy in the two mile handicap (7:15pm). She’s been running okay over hurdles, but we certainly think she has an each-way squeak on her first start on the Flat, particularly if the ground softens up. The cheekpieces go on for the first time too and that will hopefully help her travel a bit better.
