DAQMAN HAS THE LAST LAUGH AGAIN WITH 14-1 BIG-RACE HIT: Daqman turned the pressure on himself and delivered big time yesterday. After three naps up and three winning days he made it more than 75 points profit over four consecutive days. The tension turned to laughter as he landed the Irish Cambridgeshire at the Curragh with Laughifyouwant (WON 14-1) for a winning bull’s-eye bet.

NOW HE’S 461 POINTS CLEAR OF PRICEWISE TO 10-POINT UNITS: That put Daqman on exactly double Pricewise winners for the season, 32-16, but more than 461.36 points clear, with the level-stakes score showing Daqman in plus, Pricewise with a three-figure minus: Daqman +56.52, Pricewise -404.84

PICK POMELO: COULD BE ANYTHING

⭕ 1.50 Goodwood (Ladbrokes Prestige Stakes) It’s turned into another mudbath, I’m afraid, and we have lost probably the best horse on parade, Happy Romance in this.

With Happy Romance withdrawn, I shall try Pomelo, a Dubawi out of a Dansili mare, who has to beat Prado, whose Salisbury form was boosted by success afterwards for the runner-up.

Pomelo, 3.5 on BETDAQ this morning, surprised the Ralph Beckett yard by winning shortly after starting fast work. Pulled well clear on the debut at Newbury, with very little riding required, and ‘could be anything.’

Isabella Giles was unbeaten until stepping into Group company, when she kept on well as if this step up to 7f would suit.

SHH! BAABY IS BIG AT BETDAQ 7.7

⭕ 2.05 Newmarket There are five CD winners in this field, including Raucous who won this Listed last year on good to firm, after finishing fourth in the Wokingham.

He is officially 7lb behind Summerghand, winner of the Stewards Cup the last day (Watan well beaten), and so stymied now for handicaps off 113. He prefers top of the ground.

Brad The Brief was 4-5 coming to his summer programme but the stable has been badly out of form (currently 1-24).

The CD-winner Shabaaby has figures of 111 with ‘soft’ in the going return, two of them under Jim Crowley. The 7.7 on BETDAQ makes him worth an interest.

CHAMPION CHANCE FOR BATTERED

⭕ 2.25 Goodwood (Ladbrokes Handicap) Adam Kirby goes for a hat-trick in this race for three different trainers, riding for Mark Johnston here after winners for Dean Ivory and Clive Cox.

His mount is Cardsharp, who is 320 at Goodwood, including once as beaten favourite, and his turf success has come mainly on a sound surface. He’s down 11lb since March in AW.

Stalls 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 have won eight of the last nine and yesterday they were coming across to the stands’ side after the bend, which favours those higher draws: stalls 6 (twice), 8 and 10 won yesterday.

Magical Wish found himself short of room when he was beaten here out of stall 2 last month, and made up for it with success at Doncaster (firm).

He loads into the adjacent stall 3 today but Breath Of Air must have a chance of beating him, in receipt of 8lb, with Ryan Moore remaining loyal after their nose defeat at Haydock.

In gate 2 is Alemaratalyoum, who is just now down to around his last winning mark, here at Goodwood last September when the ground was heavy. Milltown Star is another who likes the mud, gelded since solid form in deep ground last backend.

But the soft-ground bet is Battered (BETDAQ 6.9), down 12lb since he moved from William Haggas to Ralph Beckett, after winning at York and here at Goodwood over the CD, both races on soft. Champion-jockey Oisin Murphy booked.

‘ART’ LIKES COURSE AND GROUND

⭕ 3.00 Goodwood (Ladbrokes March Stakes) The improving filly Table Mountain in this and the Royal Hunt Cup winner Sir Busker in the Celebration Mile deserve their chance to leap from handicaps into the pattern but the bad ground is against them.

Table Mountain’s is the bigger leap. She has to find around a stone in the ratings against Subjectivist and Cabaletta, and faces a dark horse in Celtic Art, who is unexposed and from a stable in form.

A front-runner ran all over Cabaletta on the last day and that’s what the grey filly faces again in Subjectivist, though he went out tamely in the Great Voltigeur after just failing – dropped back third – to hold Mogul here at Goodwood.

Paul Cole split the pair with Highland Chief, who went on to be second to Pyledriver in the Voltigeur. If he were here today, I’d have no hesitation in backing him for this.

And stablemate Celtic Art (BETDAQ 6.3) could turn out to be more than a deputy dawg, as a course winner who has done well on heavy ground.

On the one side of his pedigree he is related to the mile Group-1 winner, Entrepreneur; on the other, his dam was a French soft-ground winner up to 1m 7f.

REALITY SHOW FOR STOUTE HOPE

⭕ 3.35 Goodwood (Ladbrokes Celebration Mile) Seven winners in the decade have won from stalls 1, 2, 3, including Duke Of Hazzard (3) down that far rail a year ago. He’s coming out of 2 today.

The Duke was only three when he won, as was Kodi Bear four years earlier. Sole second-season runner this year is Positive (first-time cheekpieces), who has struggled in the pattern in all six races since his debut, three in Group 1 including when behind Pinatubo in the Dewhurst.

His sole success after winning his debut maiden was when beating the Guineas winner Kameko on firm ground in the Solario at Sandown last August.

Regal Reality returned to winning form the last day, resorting to a visor (Positive third, Duke Of Hazzard last). His form figures at a mile in the last two years are 13331. His Group-3 form: 1311

Like Sir Busker, soft ground is not his preference though he has form on it.

Century Dream’s record on soft-heavy since he struck form in June 2017 is 11101302.

He was beaten only in the last 100 yards when third to Roaring Lion in the Group-1 British Champions Mile of 2018. Won the Diomed a second time after recent wind surgery.

Does Sir Busker’s trainer, William Knight, think this bunch can be beaten by a solid handicapper, winner of the Royal Hunt Cup, second in the Bunbury? In fact, Sir Busker has been raised to 111, so options limited.

Verdict: Century Dream bounced back at a lower level at Newbury but was only beating the quirky King Of Comedy, and it was his first success for two years.

Duke Of Hazzard prefers a sound surface and Sir Busker is asked to leap into the pattern on bad ground. This is really no better than a Group 3 and Regal Reality can take it (4.7 taken on BETDAQ).
