DAQMAN’S LEADING THREE-YEAR-OLDS OF 2021: Yesterday Daqman opened his Fortune Cookies file for the 2020-21 National Hunt season. Today he rates the top two-year-olds of 2020 with a view to the 2021 Flat season, and with the Classics in mind. The two lists together could contain the star names of Cheltenham, Newmarket, the Curragh and Epsom.
THREE BETS: DAQMAN has three bets on Tuesday including a NAP at Southwell attempting to repeat his course and distance win last time out.
TOP MARKS TO MOON’S NATIONAL
🔢 FINAL 2yo RATINGS: The National Stakes at the Curragh emerges as a Classic run early in my final assessment of the two-year-olds for the 2020 season.
Thunder Moon, the National Stakes winner, has St Mark’s Basilica catching him fast after that one won the Dewhurst but the going was soft and holding that day at Newmarket.
Wembley, runner-up in both National Stakes and Dewhurst, is likely to go to America for the Breeders Cup, along with Campanelle and Pretty Gorgeous but performances there have hardly affected the following Classic year in England and Ireland.

117 ST MARK’S BASILICA (Aidan O’Brien) Fifth in the Phoenix Stakes, third in the National Stakes but winner of the Dewhurst.

115 CAMPANELLE (Wesley Ward, top filly) Won the Queen Mary; beat the colts in the Prix Morny.

113 SEALIWAY (Frederic Rossi) Won the Jean-Luc Lagardere on heavy.
111 MASTER OF THE SEAS (Charlie Appleby) July Course winner; fourth in the National Stakes.
111 LUCKY VEGA (Jessica Harrington) Second in the Railway Stakes; won the Phoenix but only fifth in the National Stakes and runner-up in the Middle Park.
110 HIGH DEFINITION (Aidan O’Brien) winner of the Beresford Stakes.
110 CADILLAC (Jessica Harrington) Leopardstown Champion Juvenile (beat Van Gogh), after Curragh Futurity second to Mac Swiney. But only fifth in the Dewhurst.
110 ONE RULER (Charlie Appleby) beat Van Gogh in the Autumn Stakes.
110 PRETTY GORGEOUS (Joseph O’Brien, second-top filly) Beat Shale at the Curragh (good); second to the same one in the Moyglare on soft but well clear in the Fillies Mile.
108 VAN GOGH (Aidan O’Brien) winner of the Saint-Cloud Criterium on soft.
107 BATTLEGROUND (Aidan O’Brien) Won the Chesham and the Vintage Stakes.
107 CHINDIT (Richard Hannon) Ascot winner followed up in the Champagne Stakes but well behind in the Dewhurst.
105 ETONIAN (Richard Hannon) Won the Solario Stakes at Sandown; well behind in the Dewhurst
NO BELIEF IN FAVOURITE
⭕ 1.40 Catterick Just the six runners for this class 4 which should prove a test of stamina over a mile and a half on the forecast soft ground.
I worry that the market leader on BETDAQ Betting Exchange Rich Belief might struggle. He comes from the in-form stable of James Bethell but has done much of his racing over seven furlongs and a mile and was far from convincing when tried over this trip at Newcastle on the all-weather last time out.
He led but was headed around over 2f out and dropped away quite tamely.
There’s probably value elsewhere and I like the look of the only course and distance winner in the race Beechwood Jude.
His trainer Keith Dalgleish is on the crest of a wave with 6 winners from his last 38 runners and Beechwood Jade is out to put a poor run last time out behind him.
The trainer could offer no explanation for his poor effort over C&D last time out when only 7th having started at 4/1 but this looks an easier event and hopefully his run last time out was a blip.
Bolder Bob finished fifth in that race and Beechwood should reverse that form.
BEEP BEEP FOR MEEP MEEP
⭕ 3.05 Bangor Meep Meep looks to have outstanding claims in this handicap hurdle.
The Dan Skelton trained runner was beaten on her handicap debut at Market Rasen but there looked to be valid excuses as she lost a shoe mid-race.
She had previously run well on stable debut at Doncaster when fifth and this doesn’t look the toughest of contests.
NAP HAS XCELENTE CHANCE
⭕ 6.20 Southwell Xcelente stands out as the nap of the day.
The Tim Easterby trained runner was really impressive when winning over course and distance last time out – winning by 4 1/4 lengths but value for more.
He’s taken a predictable hike in the weights but might well be up to it. The switch to the quirky Southwell surface seems to have found the key to him.
He had previously been beaten a nose on his track debut, having struggled in three turf starts this season when going off at 50/1, 66/1 and 50/1.
Much shorter odds tonight but 10 buys me 10 which looks a good ‘X-Change’ rate.
Star Of St James was also a last time out winner here but has struggled off this mark and higher in the past.
