📈 STATS: No horse of a double-figure age has won since 1975 when the sponsors were Mackeson; only two five-year-olds have scored in the race’s entire 60-year history. Just three have carried more than 11st 3lb in 20 years.

Happy Diva tries for back-to-back wins, last achieved by Bradbury Star (1993-4), though Cyfor Malta won it twice, but with a three-year-gap in between (1998 and 2002).
The double for Happy Diva’s jockey, Richard Patrick, would be the first since Tony McCoy (2000-01) and Timmy Murphy (2004-5), all four of their winners trained by Martin Pipe.
Al Dancer, Sky Pirate: Pipe won it eight times and only Nigel Twiston-Davies (Al Dancer) and Jonjo O’Neill (Sky Pirate) have come anywhere near following his example.
Saint Sonnet, Brelan d’As: There’s been money for both Paul Nicholls’ contenders, including the five-year-old Saint Sonnet.
Nicholls has taken the prize twice in eight years, one of them Al Ferof, perhaps the best horse to win it in the decade.
Brelan d’As, who was runner-up last year aged only four, will be 3lb better off for a neck with Happy Diva. The pair finished eight lengths clear.
Simply The Betts, Mister Fisher have both halved in price during the week for, respectively, Harry Whittington and Nicky Henderson.
TODAY’S PROPHECY FOR ENGLAND
⭕ 1.40 Ludlow Though Threeunderthrufive has won on soft and on heavy, trainer Paul Nicholls insists that he’ll prove a better horse on a better surface.
So whatever happens to the Ludlow going of good, good to soft in places – come the forecast showers or not – won’t worry the Lingfield winner, who skipped clear on his hurdles debut.
Valleres also went away on the run-in when he won at Wetherby, and one of the two five-year-olds should win over Neil The Legend and La Domaniale, who are making their English debuts.
⭕ 2.05 Taunton Tomorrow Mystery appears to have an easy for Nicholls at Taunton, never out of the frame, Flat or hurdles, since winning at Wolverhampton more than three years back.
But Robinshill made all at Ludlow three weeks back, when showing his preference for the sounder surface he will get today.
⭕ 2.40 Taunton Irish Prophecy (BETDAQ 3.85) could have the good ground of his success over hurdles and a chase but he’s up 7lb for being beaten in a novice handicap chase because the winner completed a hat-trick in a Listed last week.
Ben Jones takes off 3lb and it may yet be third time lucky, but his nearest rival here, Pontresina, though only 1-10 under rules, seems to have taken off since being switched to chasing.
Looksnowtlikebrian has a love affair with Carlisle. On Tour has recorded 15 defeats since scoring at Aintree three years ago.
Another Stowaway has not been able to score again, despite the addition of cheekpieces, since winning eight races back in a novice at Leicester.
The ‘hidden horse’ is Nigel Twiston-Davies’s One Forty Seven, who beat Irish Prophecy at Southwell in July and has had excuses since, though Sam Twiston-Davies is at Ludlow for one ride.
⭕ 2.15 Ludlow Checkitout, backed in to BETDAQ 3.2 this morning, was a real eyecatcher, staying on at Uttoxeter over too short a trip, in his first race for Nigel Twiston-Davies. Up in distance today after wind ops, with Sam Twiston-Davies here for the one ride.
Don Lami beat a poor field (at the time; one has improved since) at Taunton a year or so back and hasn’t been seen since.
CLONMEL: PUNTERS PICK PARTNER
⭕ 1.50 Clonmel Noel Meade has landed five winners in November and Impatient Partner is another likely to benefit from a step up in trip, after starting favourite in two handicaps over shorter.
Westerner Point is 11 now and Sweet Sting has been collared by the handicapper, so main concern is the Gordon Elliottt duo, who have broken their maiden in one of their last two starts.
But they were both easy to back this morning as the money came for Impatient Partner in to 5.2 on BETDAQ, with old man Westerner Point a lonely favourite at 4.7.
⭕ 2.25 Clonmel A cracking mares’ Listed chase. Grand National runner-up Magic of Light usually needs her run back, even more so over a short trip, as also happened last November.
Shattered Love, a good second to Chris’s Dream in the Red Mills Chase, won this last year, and was prepped for a repeat at Punchestown last month.
Cabaret Queen, third in the Galway Plate, won the Kerry National (we were on!) at Listowel in September. The BETDAQ Betting Exchange gives you a value chance with offers totalling only 106%.
⭕ 3.00 Clonmel The feature race is a Willie Mullins conundrum. Clear favourites are his pair Cilaos Emery and Bachasson.
Cilaos Emery landed a chasing hat-trick, stepping up the grades until, reaching the very top of the ladder, he fell at the first in the Grade-1 Dublin Chase.
Confidence restored over hurdles at Gowran but the Cheltenham Champion Hurdle was too much for him. Now he tries a longer trip over fences.
The 2m 4f over today’s course and distance has already produced the best from Bachasson in March, 12 lengths winner from Death Duty with today’s rival, Mortal, in third.
Alpha des Obeaux was always expected to have his usual two runs back before the Becher Chase at Aintree in December.
