LOOK OUT FOR DAQMAN’S PREVIEW ON THE LADBROKES TROPHY: Daqman’s building up to another big weekend, starting today with horses-to-follow bets, and followed in the next couple of days by previews of Fairyhouse (Sunday) and Ladbrokes Trophy day at Newbury on Saturday.

Today: DAQMAN keeps the stakes low but one winner from his three bets should be enough to secure a profit on the day with his staking plan.

VALUE IS THE ONLY UNBEATABLE

Hail and farewell, Shishkin! The pundits used up all their superlatives this morning after Shishkin (pictured) romped home when deliberately set a jumping test in the hoofprints of Altior yesterday. But that puts him out of reach of the general betting public.

Shishkin won by 23 lengths and 49 at 6-1 on, similar to Altior’s 2-13 SP return in the same Kempton race. He would never be odds against again, not even when winning the Arkle.

The only race in which the ordinary punter could play Altior was his Champion Chase a year later when he scored at Cheltenham an even-money favourite.

On three occasions, when 1-8, 1-9 and 1-10, he was even out of reach of the so-called ‘professionals’.

From the stands or the sofa, punters love an Arkle and an Altior but they are much better off trying to beat the book than acquiescing to it.

That’s particularly true when there is no bookmaker setting his own odds, only an intermediary such as BETDAQ to channel the requirements of backers and layers at the minimum of fees.. sometimes, as on BETDAQ Saturdays, no commission at all!

Enjoy the unbeatable, but you won’t find him in my Fortune Cookies. The only unbeatable element for punters is value.

FORTUNE COOKIES: Early Birds

Fakiera news? I’m reserving judgment on Sunday’s Monksfield Novice Hurdle at Navan, with the race run half a minute slow, and the hot favourite Farouk d’Alene jumping out to the right all the time.

Fire Attack jumped well but, looking keen, suffered from the false pace and had to go on, leaving Fakiera to use his stamina and seemingly flash past them, but you do whizz by when everything else has been standing still.

Buzz was another whizz-bang winner, but had to get organised off a decent pace in a handicap at Ascot on Friday, and there was no fluke about the way he strode clear on the run-in.

Buzz is clearly better than a handicapper, which is just as well with the Welsh Champion Hurdle third now likely to be thumped in the ratings for that performance.

I picked Real Steel over Imperial Aura but it was another case of ‘you’ve got to jump the fences,’ when the Aura put in such an economical round at Ascot on Saturday that he was able to keep on strongly, despite being forced to take over when Black Corton stumbled out of the race after the ninth. We hope to have these runners in the next couple of weeks:

Annie Mc (Jonjo O’Neill) Grand Sefton, Aintree, Saturday, December 5
Ballyadam (Gordon Elliott) Royal Bond Novice Hurdle, Fairyhouse, Sunday.
Chris’s Dream (Henry De Bromhead) John Durkan, Punchestown, Sunday, December 6.
Crievehill Nigel Twiston-Davies) Becher Chase, Aintree, Saturday, December 5.
Easywork (Gordon Elliott) Drinmore, Fairyhouse, Sunday
Envoi Allen (Gordon Elliott) Drinmore, Fairyhouse, Sunday
Saint Roi (Willie Mullins) Hattons Grace Hurdle, Sunday

ALSO LISTED: Allmankind (Dan Skelton), Atholl Street (Paul Nicholls), Buzz (Nicky Henderson), Crosshill (Jessica Harrington), Cyrname (Paul Nicholls), Easysland (David Cottin), Enrilo (Paul Nicholls), Felix Desjy (Gordon Elliott), Franigane (Harry Whittington), Galvin (Gordon Elliottt), Ginto (Gordon Elliott), Greaneteen (Paul Nicholls), Imperial Aura (Kim Bailey), McFabulous (Paul Nicholls), Potters Corner (Christian Williams), Protektorat (Dan Skelton), Rouge Vif (Harry Whittington), Thyme White (Paul Nicholls), Vanillier (Gavin Cromwell).

BLUE THE CLUE AT LINGFIELD

⭕ 2.55 Lingfield Too much racing? Not enough for Godolphin who ran FIVE debutants in the same race at Chelmsford last night – they went away with the 1-2-3. Imagine being a smaller owner/trainer thinking you’ll have a tilt at a ‘small’ maiden at Chelmsford and running into that!

The Boys In Blue rely on just one runner for this Ladbrokes-sponsored nursery but the credentials of Branwell look solid.

I’m fairly certain we haven’t seen the best of him yet in three starts and he didn’t appear to enjoy the heavy ground at Newmarket last time out when a well beaten fourth.

The blinkers are on for the first time today which will hopefully help him concentrate – especially at the start when he has been a bit sleepy.

His trainer Charlie Appleby has scored with four of his last 13 runners with a further four runner-up spots in that sequence.

The BETDAQ Betting Exchange suggests it’s an open looking race and the main danger could come from Where You At who continues to improve and should appreciate the extra distance.

AMBITIOUS NAP

⭕ 5.00 Wolverhampton Another Ladbrokes-sponsored prize – this time a nursery over six furlongs and my nap of the day is Highest Ambition.

After showing promise on debut at Kempton, despite having a nightmare start being slowly away and then hampered, he proved what he’s capable of over course and distance last time out when beaten a short head by Prince Of Abington. The pair finished nicely clear.

With normal improvement he should prove hard to collar off what looks a sensible starting handicap mark of 75.

He is preferred to the consistent, but more exposed Tilaawah who has his first start for Mark Loughnane having joined the yard from the Richard Hannon stable and is up another 2lb in the weights.

BREEZE HOME…

⭕ 6.00 Wolverhampton A decent class 2 handicap here over the minimum trip.

Venturous has excelled since being dropped back in trip and was a ready winner at Newcastle last week but races under a penalty in a higher grade tonight and doesn’t look great value.

A better play might be the Richard Hughes trained Top Breeze who has run two solid races recently in this grade (including over course and distance) and gets a pound knocked off by the handicapper.

DAQMAN’S BETS (staked to win 10 points)
BET 3.3pts win BRANWELL (2.55 Lingfield)
BET 5.4pts win (nap) HIGHEST AMBITION (5.00 Wolverhampton)
BET 2.2pts win TOP BREEZE (6.00 Wolverhampton)

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
