MATCH OVERVIEW:
It’s the second game on a big double header day at the Bellerive Oval in the Big Bash on Sunday as Sydney Sixers take on the Melbourne Renegades. The Sixers will want to quickly put their faults right from their first game when they threw away an excellent position to win against the Hobart Hurricanes, while the Renegades were very impressive against a good Scorchers side here yesterday. We should have an excellent game between two strong sides.
It took the Renegades ten games to get their first win last season but they got off to a flyer by bowling Perth Scorchers out for 130 and chasing it down easily. Interestingly, we saw a lot of swing for the Renegades and ball movement as well. Perth got some too but not as much – it will be interesting to see do the Renegade bowlers get the same again. If they can keep that going they will be very difficult to beat!
Josh Lalor took three wickets for the Renegades and he already looks an excellent signing from Brisbane Heat. The Renegade batting started well too with the opening partnership between Shaun Marsh and Aaron Finch getting to 70. With Rilee Rossouw in the middle order and improved bowling we could see Renegades go well this season. For the Sixers, they basically have to do the same things they did against the Hurricanes but tactically use their power hitters better. Let’s see do they make any improvements from their first game.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We’ve had two very different games here to start the tournament. With this being the second game on the day we have the advantage of seeing what the pitch is doing in the first game. We didn’t have a double header here yesterday, but we saw a lot of movement when bowling with the new ball. With that kind of movement the batting team is always going to be under pressure and make mistakes aiming too high in a T20. I wouldn’t do anything for the first few overs to see what the ball is doing, and then decide are we looking at a game more like Hurricanes v Sixers or Scorchers v Renegades. 178/8 should have been chased down by the Sixers, but with the amount of movement it was no surprise to see Scorchers all out for 130. A lot depends on conditions here and I wouldn’t get married to an opinion before the off.
RECOMMENDED BET:
I fully respect how impressive the Renegades were in their first game, and the amount of movement they got with the new ball does worry me here – but I still feel the Sixers are worth backing at 2.28. I just wouldn’t have them that high and see this game as a very even game. The Sixers leaked a few more runs at the death than I would have liked against Hobart and they also finished their innings with the bat poorly. However, they did a lot of things right and they would (”should have”) won easily bar the poor finish which was more tactical than anything. I expect a very close game, but the Sixers are the value for me.
The Edge Says:
One point win Sydney Sixers to beat Melbourne Renegades at 2.28 on BETDAQ Betting Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
This should be a good game for trading on BETDAQ Betting Exchange with plenty of swings in-running and flip flopping favourites. By now the new rules should have bedded into the market odds and I don’t think we’ll see any crazy movements. I still feel teams will target that ten over mark and we’ll see more action, but the market should have this priced in by now.
I would definitely support the bowling team here first up – especially after seeing the movement in the game at this time yesterday here. The first few overs is definitely worth supporting the bowling team as we could see a lot of market movement and if the ball is moving that much it’s going to be very difficult for the batting team to hit fours and sixes to take the market away from you. I feel the Sixers could finish a lot better if they pushing their power hitters up the order, so watch out for that and see can they improve tactically from the first game. Apart from Rossouw in the middle order there could be value going against the Renegades after the openers have gone.
