BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Sunday’s Big Bash game between Brisbane Heat v Hobart Hurricanes with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The Big Bash returns to The Gabba on Sunday morning after a thrilling game here just before Christmas! Adelaide Strikers beat Brisbane Heat by two runs after Brisbane Heat collapsed to 68/8 only to see Jimmy Peirson score 69 off 36 balls. He managed to get the equation down to 7 runs off 4 balls but then allowed Strikers three dot balls and the game was over. That’s the closest Heat have come to winning a game, and with Chris Lynn injuring himself in the warm-up that day it looks like it’s going to be a very long season for the Heat.
The Hurricanes have started brightly and sit towards the top of the table with 11 points from four games. I wouldn’t say that they have done anything impressively, but they have been very solid. Their bowling looks pretty strong, and they have gone well in all the games so far. Their batting failed to fire against Adelaide Strikers but apart from that they have been bang on the money.
Brisbane Heat look like a very poor side to me. With the loss of Chris Lynn to injury (to be confirmed) they look especially weak now and their bowling has a lot of problems. Mujeeb Ur Rahman will definitely help however he can’t do everything on his own. We have had sides just play out the likes of Sunil Narine or Rashid Khan and attack the others – it seems certain that will be the approach against Brisbane Heat.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
I said in my preview before the first game here to not expect very high scores because the average score batting first has been coming down with each year. Perhaps it’s because of the Heat getting worse but we haven’t had many big scores here recently. Really and truly the 150 should have been chased in the first game and I would suggest that because Heat got so close even allowing for everything going terribly at the start would say you’d need 165+ batting first. Perhaps with the quality of the Heat batting that score can come down for Hobart but I would suggest that is par for two good sides.
RECOMMENDED BET:
The market is starting to see how poor the Heat are and the odds are adjusting down. I’m still happy to bet against them, as I feel you will make money betting against them for the whole tournament despite them winning a few games. However, Hobart Hurricanes are only worth a small investment at 1.57. That’s still a fair price for me, but it’s not far off what it should be and it’s not a bet to go mad about. Hobart are a very solid team however and they should be able to easily beat this Heat side. Their bowling should be very successful against this Heat batting.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Even though the Heat are a bad side, that doesn’t mean this won’t be a good game for trading on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. Even in the last game, Adelaide Strikers traded 1.01 only to go back up towards 1.3 as the Heat got back into it. Even with a “one sided” game, there can be some excellent momentum trading opportunities.
For this game, I would be keen to get on the bowling team early on with the new ball given the pitch. I wouldn’t expect a high score; however I really don’t like the Heat bowling so the new ball would have to be doing a lot for me to support them. If Heat batting first I could see Hobart bowling them out for a very low score. Hobart have been very solid, and if they can see off Mujeeb Ur Rahman they can go well. I wouldn’t mind supporting his bowling when he comes on but he can’t carry this Heat side on his own.
