ATHLETIC BILBAO V REAL SOCIEDAD
1pm Two interesting La Liga markets end the year on BETDAQ Betting Exchange on New Year’s Eve! We have an earlier than usual start as we kick off at 1pm with Athletic Bilbao against Real Sociedad. It’s fair to say that Real Sociedad have been poor recently after a very fast start. They are still holding onto a position close to the top of the table but they haven’t won in six games and they have played more games than the teams around them too. In fairness they have been unlucky at times in the sense that they are still creating chances – but they should be beating the likes of Alaves and Levante.
This is a very interesting market, because do you want to back Sociedad at 2.62 here given their recent run? Athletic Bilbao are an average mid-table La Liga side but they will be bang up for a Basque Derby. Perhaps this is what Sociedad need to get out of their poor run. There’s generally some drama in this game and we tend to get goals as well. I’m surprised to see over 2.5 goals as big as 2.46 given we have two teams who generally create some decent chances and always up their game playing each other. I feel the match odds market is close to bang on, and the value is with over 2.5 goals at 2.46 for a small investment.

OSASUNA V ALAVES
3.15pm We finish the year with the glamour of Osasuna hosting Alaves! Both sides are sitting towards the bottom of La Liga, although Alaves fans might take offence to that as it won’t take much to push them into the top half. Personally I don’t see why Osasuna are favourite here, indeed they look exceptionally short at 2.4! I’d have Alaves favourites given the way Osasuna have played this season – they are in the bottom three for a reason. Osasuna have conceded an xG of 1.26, 2.52, 2.02, 1.47 and 3.91 in their last five games, although the last figure game against Barcelona.
I fully accept that Alaves aren’t a great side, nor a side you can rely on, so I will factor that into my staking – however I can’t get away from Alaves at 3.35. The Osasuna lay is a very tempting bet, and indeed I might live to regret my Alaves bet if the game finishes a draw however I’m very happy to finish the year getting these odds! Alaves aren’t a flashy side, but they create enough to beat this Osasuna side considering the problems Osasuna are having at the back. Alaves were able to beat Real Madrid recently too and Osasuna are without a win in eight. I think this is a good time to take a chance with Alaves, especially at the odds.
