ODDSTRACKER: We’ve almost reached the halfway point in the season and so it’s as good a time as any to take a look at how the Premier League Relegation odds have changed so far.
Tracking The Odds Of Those Battling To Beat The Drop
The majority of pundits are talking about this being one of the most open title races ever and while that’s certainly true, the fight for survival is equally tight.
Having impressed so many in their first season back in the Premier League, Sheffield United were expected to push on, with their unique brand of football seemingly holding them in good stead.
However it’s been nothing short of a disaster so far for Chris Wilder’s side who have yet to win a game and find themselves on just two points from 17 games played.
They started the season at 4.5 with BETDAQ to be relegated, but their shocking start, which sees them sit 12 points from safety, means they are currently just 1.05 to drop down to the Championship at the end of the current campaign.
Being one of three promoted sides almost always means you are one of the favourites for the drop and that was very much the case with Fulham and West Brom in 2020/21.
Both clubs began life back in the English top-flight at 2.1 to be relegated, but they have found things tough, for the most part, and with the Baggies 19th in the table with eight points and the west London club a place higher in 18th with 11 points, West Brom are currently 1.13 to drop straight back down and Fulham are 1.8.
The other two teams who look to be in the relegation battle are Burnley and Brighton.
Like Sheffield United, Brighton started the season at 4.5 and they did okay for the first few games of the season.
They were 9.0 in early December for the drop, but having not won since November, the Seagulls have been dragged into the mire and are now 4.33 to end their stay in the league.
It’s been the total opposite for Burnley, who began the season in terrible fashion.
It took them until late November to register their first win – a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace – and since then their fortunes have turned.
They’ve won three of their last five in the league and having been 1.91 for the drop before the aforementioned Palace win, they are now 4.33, with momentum very much on their side.
Sheffield United look in deep trouble, but barring that, it’s really anyone’s guess as to who will be playing their football in the Championship next season.
