BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s Big Bash game between Perth Scorchers v Brisbane Heat with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
We’ve had to wait a while this season but the Big Bash finally rolls into Docklands Stadium in Melbourne. This is always an excellent venue with the roof closed or open and we’re bound to have some high quality cricket here this week. As we are getting to the business end of the group stage, every game is vital for all the sides now bar the Sydney Sixers who are clear at the top and the Melbourne Renegades who are detached at the bottom.
The Scorchers broke a winning run at the weekend as they moved out of Perth Stadium and it will be very interesting to see how they get on today. They were excellent at their home venue, but they need to keep winning if they are to reach the Playoffs. The Heat have played very average cricket at times this season, but they are hanging in there and have a chance of claiming the final Playoff spot.
The Heat may have played some poor cricket at times, but they do have the best fixtures heading into the final stages. If they can beat Perth today, they then play the Adelaide Strikers who are below them in the table and have been very up-and-down this season, and then they play the Melbourne Renegades who have been woeful. On the final day, these two actually play again! I feel this is an important game for the Scorchers, who have a tougher run-in.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
They’ve tend to close the roof a lot for Big Bash games here in the past, but do confirm that on Twitter before the game starts. They might opt to leave it open for better air circulation given the Covid19 pandemic although Australia has obviously dealt with it very well. We had four games here last season and the first inning scores were 155/6, 168/7, 190/3 and 154/7 for an average score of 167. Half were chased and half defended. It seems reasonable to expect a score between 155 and 165, while we have had some big scores here when teams get going. Of course, it’s the first fixture here so we’ll just have to wait and see what the pitch is like in the opening overs.
RECOMMENDED BET:
Perth Scorchers have improved a lot since the start of the tournament, however you could say the same about the Heat who started very badly. Chris Lynn starting to score runs has been a big positive, especially at the rate that he scores. While Joe Denly and Joe Burns have chipped in. Perth have yet to show that they are a force outside of their home conditions – this is something they need to do before the Playoffs! Perth look too short for me at 1.72 and I have to opt for the Heat at 2.32 from a value point of view. I expect a close game.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
With this being the first game of the season at Docklands, we could see some big swings in-running on BETDAQ Betting Exchange as the market tries to decide what a good score is. I have given you the latest ground data above, and I don’t think we’ll be far away from that. I wouldn’t mind getting against the Perth batting for a small stake if they bat first. Sometimes this wicket can be a tad slow and the market might expect a bigger score than is possible. The Heat bowling isn’t very strong, so don’t go too heavy on that trade.
I’ve been saying for weeks that Jason Roy will be a big help for Perth but he hasn’t fired at all yet. He might be worth taking on as he’s worth plenty of ticks. The Perth middle order looks out of form too, and I’d be keen to get against them for a slightly bigger stake than mentioned above.
