DAQMAN RELIES ON SCOTTISH RAIDER FOR A NAPS HAT-TRICK: It’s an AW Saturday in England and Daqman celebrates the emergence of teenage star names among the Flat jockeys with a future. He covers terrestrial TV races at Lingfield and Naas (the only Jumps meeting on these islands), and finds an outsider for Wolverhampton tonight. His nap is a Lingfield raider from Scotland, already talked about as a Royal Ascot horse. Headlines:

TOP-NAME JOCKEYS OF TOMORROW
Riding high. Six weeks to go to the Lincoln Handicap but it’s a Saturday on which the Flat is centre stage on AW in England, so a chance to check out the jockey stars of tomorrow.
BENOIT DE LA SAYETTE (7-18 for 39%): It’s nearly 30 years since John Gosden had an apprentice on his books but seems to have waited for the best.
The 18-year-old Benoit, whose sole booking today is Moohareeba (11.45 Lingfield), didn’t have his first ride until Chelmsford in November and his first winner under Rules was in December.
A product of pony racing in France and then the British Racing School, he has the apprentice title as his target in 2021.
MARCO GHIANI (14-36 for 39%), the Sardinian, who started his career with Luca Cumani, rode 22 winners in 2019.
He’s now on 55 and on fire at the start of a year (currently 4-8), in which his target is to win a Group race. Has two rides at Wolverhampton tonight: 7.15 Tone The Barone and 7.45 Pactolus.
ROSSA RYAN (20-89) is one behind Hollie Doyle (21-163), as they go neck and neck at the top of the jockeys’ table. Rossa’s already had his Group win, Duke Of Hazzard in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood.
The 19-year-old former Irish pony-racing champion has a chance at Wolver tonight to draw level or even take the lead.
He’s on Steal The Scene (4.44), an appropriate name; then he has Critical Thinking (5.45), Dark Pine (7.45) and Monsaraz (8.15).
SCOTTISH RAIDER MAY BE SPECIAL
⭕ 2.00 Lingfield A Ladbrokes-sponsored 6f sprint which sees Jim Goldie get out the snow plough to bring Water Of Leith down from Scotland. He’s talking about Royal Ascot for this one.
The last day at Wolverhampton the Kodiac gelding, out of a Shamardal mare, turned over an odds-on shot who won both before and after when stepped up to a class 3.
Charlie Fellowes has landed a hat-trick but, like Water Of Leith, has to pay for his success, and both have to give 11-12lb to Twilight Heir, who looks dangerous.
Catterick scorer Twilight Heir, since gelded, was giving weight to two future winners when third at Goodwood in October and trainer Michael Bell is in form with a winner here at Lingfield in January.
It seems a close call despite the small field but Water Of Leith could be special, and is being hammered in the market, down to even money as I write.
⭕ 2.35 Lingfield One of five rides today for Ryan Moore, Crackling was a winner here in 2018 but, though gelded, has needed long breaks between his two losing races since.
Accomplice was a winner five times here at Lingfield from June onwards (six in all), sending his rating up 22lb.
Trainer John Best is 1-17 this year and Elmejor 0-14 since completing a hat-trick over shorter trips a year ago.
Noble Peace won back to back at Lingfield in January last year (among five course wins) and returned to form on the course the last day over the same 1m 2f trip.
Trainer Simon Pearce is 3-4 (75%) right now and jockey George Bass takes off 5lb. Noble Peace looks big at 11.0 in the BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.
STRIKE GOLD ON THE YUKON TRAIL
⭕ 1.40 Naas This Listed mares’ chase has Elimay a short price, after form figures of 111122 in the last two years or so.
She ran well, second at Thurles to RSA-placed Allaho, and should enhance her Mares’ Chase chance at Cheltenham.
What puts me off a decent bet is a prohibitive price and Paul Townend on the same stable’s Yukon Lil, getting the allowances. I’ll be contrary and have a pound on Paul at 5.5.
⭕ 2.15 Naas I’m following jockeys today and none did me more favours at the Dublin Racing Festival than Simon Torrens with two big handicap wins.
He’s on a ‘hidden horse’ here, Kitten Rock, who has been given a chance by the handicapper, dropped a stone since last year at this time when a close second at Thurles (17lb lower today). I took BETDAQ 15.5.
WATCH OUT MARCO! HERE’S LOMU
⭕ 7.15 Wolverhampton A class-2 gem in the clinker of low-quality racing. Stuart Wlliams is currently 3-5, with Marco Ghiani – one of the finds of this autumn and winter – jockey on two of them.
Ghiani is 4-8, three of them between 8st 13lb and 9st 6lb, so even more credit to him on Wednesday here when he got Revolutionise (8st 3lb) up to beat super-consistent Tranchee, with my bet, Lord Of The Lodge third at 12-1.
Marco had to put up 2lb overweight but refused to allow it to make a difference. Fantastic stuff. So is his current strike rate of 39%.
Here he is on Tone The Barone, 4-4 at Chelmsford, but has never raced on the Wolverhampton surface, and has four CD winners to beat.
Venturous is one of them, up 20lb for 4-5, one of the four wins here in December when he beat Lord Riddiford (Lihou behind), who is 7lb better off for little more than a length.
Last time out at Chelmsford, Lord Riddiford unseated rider when Tone The Barone (not clear run) was the winning favourite.
His Lordship would be a couple of pound better off here but readjust with Marco’s claim and it looks desperately close, with both surely superior to Venturous on these terms.
The hidden horse is Lomu. He made much of the running at Southwell behind that lightning l’escargot of the AW, Brian The Snail, after a close fifth to Venturous off level weights.
Now here’s Lomu getting more than a stone from Venturous. I remember his back-to-back wins at Wolver last winter, including when favourite at today ‘s level. Value at 9.9 on BETDAQ.
