3rd T20 PREVIEW: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Sunday’s 3rd T20 between WEST INDIES v SRI LANKA with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The T20 series is on the line on Sunday night in Coolidge after two very one sided games! It’s fair to say that these two aren’t the most reliable sides with the bat and that a collapse can come from anywhere. We have already had a low score from Sri Lanka in the 1st T20 and then West Indies in the 2nd T20. The Sri Lankan spinners were well on top in the 2nd T20, and it will be very interesting to see how the pitch plays today given it’s the third game here. I would suggest the spinners will have some success again and I wouldn’t rule out another low score from either side, or both!
We actually didn’t have a big T20 game at this ground before this series since back to the Allen Stanford days when he put up all that money for the England T20 series. That ended in tears in the end. A T20 series win would be a big win for either of these sides as they find it pretty hard to mix it with the big boys these days. Sri Lanka have been pretty weak lately, and while West Indies can have their good days, they still can’t play consistently well against the top sides like England, Australia and India.
On paper, West Indies have a much better XI. They have a lot of International T20 Worldwide stars in their XI, and only Dickwella or Mathews would get into a top IPL team from Sri Lanka. I would have West Indies as favourites, but I wouldn’t have them as short as 1.35 on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. I think the game is closer than those odds reflect.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
The surface was very sluggish and slow in the 2nd T20, and it’s hard to see conditions improving here. Indeed, they will probably only get worse given we have had another game. I would definitely bat first and make best use of conditions and then the spinners will certainly come into play in the second innings. The problem with batting in the West Indies is something batting can be so tough that you end up with a very low score in the first innings and it’s an easy chase – but I would still bat first as I feel it will be a big advantage here.
RECOMMENDED BET:
As I said above, I feel the West Indies are too short here at 1.35 and Sri Lanka look good value at 3.55. I fully take on board the fact that West Indies have a stronger XI and a lot of their stars are playing, however we saw in the last T20 how dangerous the Sri Lankan spinners can be. Their batting might not be strong on paper, but if they can bat first they can post a score and they might only need 145ish here on a tough wicket. West Indies might get the win, but 1.35 is way too short in my view – I don’t think there’s much between these sides.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Obviously we will have to wait and see how the pitch plays, but there are a few angles to look for in this game. With Covid19 changing world sport lately we actually have a different angle in cricket because we are seeing more games at the same grounds back-to-back so we know what conditions to expect. I would expect the wicket to be slow again and reasonably tough to score – we have to watch out for dew and poor bowling, but I would expect the ball to win out over the bat. Even with that said, I would favour the team batting first as they will get best use of conditions as the wicket gets more tricky.
In terms of players, you’d probably want to be against the Sri Lanka middle order based on what we’ve seen so far. I would be with their openers as they have gone well twice – especially in the second game and surely Mathews has to hit form soon. West Indies can score from anywhere, but Gayle looks a little out of touch and I’d be tempted to take on Pooran too.
