IPL GAME 2: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Saturday’s game 2 in the IPL between Chennai Super Kings v Delhi Capitals with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

It’s day two at the IPL and all cricket bets are 0% Commission on BETDAQ Betting Exchange on Saturday ahead of a wonderful day of sport! We have El Clasico this evening, along with Moving Day at The Masters and the Grand National – but all eyes in the cricket world will focus on Mumbai as Chennai meet Delhi. Of course, CSK have a lot of questions to answer after their dismal IPL in the UAE and if they don’t start well here there’s no doubt Dhoni will come under immense pressure.

Dhoni is such a star in Indian cricket, is he even likely to get dropped if he doesn’t perform? Could he drop himself if he knows he isn’t in form? There’s a lot of questions around CSK this season! As usual, they have kept the spine of their side however I feel they are more suited to their home ground. The grounds in the UAE didn’t suit them, and we could see a similar situation this season too. Having Raina back will definitely help their middle order though.

For Delhi they didn’t change much in the off season and they won’t want to change much on the field either. They started last year’s IPL in excellent form and although they finished the league section a little poorly, they were still the second best team in the league behind Mumbai who were clear winners. Their long-term goal has to be another crack as Mumbai in the Final and with their bowling attack they should have another good season.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

Unlike the game on Friday when we didn’t have much recent IPL data, we have a lot of ground data from Mumbai and we should have a good understanding of conditions. This sounds a little obvious and like sitting on the fence, but you can get two types of pitches at Mumbai – a very slow and spinning one and a belter. Watch out for the spinning one, as you don’t want to be on overs that day. The scores are pretty consistent here bar the odd low score – the average score batting first was 171 in 2017, 171 again in 2018 and 176 in 2019. We have had scores over 210 in all three years, while we have also saw 118 all-out and 133/7 in the last two season. Overall I would expect a very good wicket unless we see otherwise.

RECOMMENDED BET:

For me the jury is still out on CSK after their poor performance in the UAE. With Covid19, it actually wasn’t so long ago that the IPL 2020 took place and the teams haven’t changed much. I know CSK won their first game in that season before going on to lose plenty, but I can’t get away from Delhi today. They have a very solid batting and bowling line-up and are a much more classier side than CSK. For me, CSK have a lot of questions to answer and I am fascinated to see how Dhoni gets on. Without match practice, he could have a slow start and be under pressure very quickly. This isn’t a game for big stakes in my view given it’s only the first game for the sides, but Delhi are worth backing at 1.77.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

As I said yesterday, this year’s IPL will have a lot of good in-running strategy angles because of the ground situation with Covid19. We’re going to have an excellent view on what conditions to expect after a week or so in the tournament. For the first week, I would go into each game with an open mind as to what to expect. The most important element is the pitch obviously, and take some time trying to see what type of scores we can expect. As I said above, the average score batting first has been between 171 and 176 for the last three seasons, however we do see 200+ scored at Mumbai so if you see good batting conditions then expect quite a big score.

For some player in-running strategy, I’d be keen to support the Delhi bowling as it was very impressive last season. However, make sure all their star bowlers as playing as some of them have just flown into India recently – the South African players for example – I’m not sure if they will play or not yet. I’d be very keen to take on Dhoni in the CSK batting and the CSK middle order in general after Raina goes – I think they will be pretty weak in this department for the whole tournament.
