IPL GAME 5: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s game 5 in the IPL between Kolkata Knight Riders v Mumbai Indians with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
We’re back in Chennai on Tuesday for the IPL as the Kolkata Knight Riders take on the Mumbai Indians! It was almost déjà vu in the opening game for the Mumbai Indians as they lost to the RCB. Last season they lost their first game to CSK before going on to dominate the tournament – I don’t know why they are such slow starters, but you’d almost worry at this stage if they won their opening game!
KKR managed to win their opening game, putting up an impressive total of 187/6 here. That was a massive score on this ground, but I’m sure the Sunrisers Hyderabad were very disappointed with their bowling – it’s usually much better, and I would be a little worried about the fact that KKR conceded 177 in the chase. Nevertheless, it was a fantastic start for KKR who put up that total without Russell or Morgan scoring over ten runs between them.
Mumbai started very well in the opening game, but they pretty much collapsed to only record 159/9. RCB needed to go to the last ball to win, close to throwing away the game with a collapse themselves. The reality is the Mumbai Indians middle-order won’t fail often, and they should be much better today. We should have a good game.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We have had two games at Chennai now the first inning totals have been 159/9 and 187/6. We have had some spin and the pitch has been pretty slow. Basically, you need to take your time getting in and then you can start to play shots when you get used to the pace of the wicket. I would suggest 170 is the aim batting first and would be a pretty competitive score. Certainly anything over 180 looks very tricky to chase, but always be on the lookout for dew here as that will have a massive impact on the scores. I’d win the toss and bat first – even though Mumbai lost the first game batting first – you have to make best use of conditions first up.
RECOMMENDED BET:
KKR did a lot right in their opening game, and they would have been delighted to see the domestic players score very well. They can only improve with Russell and Morgan adding to the total. I would definitely be worried about their bowling however, and I feel that will be a massive issue here. Mumbai bowled very well to make the game close against RCB, and if they can finish off their batting better then they should get the job done here. Mumbai have a rock solid look to their side, and I don’t see their middle order being as bad as they were in the first game. That being said, this isn’t a game for big stakes in my view.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
As we see more games at each venue, in-running trading should get a little bit easier on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. Indeed, some cricket fans have been saying the negative of having all the games at certain venues makes the games “more predictable.” Although Mumbai made a mess of finishing off their innings here in their first game, I’d definitely still want to get on the team batting first. They might bat poorly, but they will definitely get the best conditions and give you a slight edge there.
Chris Lynn made 49 runs in the first game and if he can stay in good form that will be a huge boost for the Mumbai Indians. I’d be keen to open a trade on the Mumbai openers here as the KKR bowlers can be very loose. Mumbai have to target Andre Russell when he’s bowling too, I’d be keen to get on the batting side when he comes into bowl.
