PURPLE PATCH: David Moyes is working wonders at West Ham United and his team have been in flying form since the turn of the year.
As the battle for Champions League qualification hots up, one team continue to punch above their weight.
West Ham, who have really struggled in recent seasons, are still very much in the picture to be dining at Europe’s top table next season and if anything they seem to be getting better and better as this campaign goes on.
Since the start of 2021, David Moyes’ side have played 15 times in the Premier League and have won a very impressive 10 matches.
The Hammers have lost just three times so far this year and their great sequence of form has seen their dream of playing Champions League football become a real possibility.
They have scored 28 goals since the turn of the year, in no small part due to the arrival of Jesse Lingard on loan from Manchester United, who has taken to his new surroundings like a duck to water with his eight goals in nine matches – already the joint-most he’s scored in one season during his career.
West Ham have accrued 32 points in 2021 so far – a total that can only be bettered by the two Manchester clubs, who, of course, fill out the top two places in the Premier League table.
Moyes’ team still have plenty of work to do to be playing against Europe’s elite, but if they can continue the form they’ve shown for the first four months of the season then they’ll be in with a very good chance of doing so.
