CHAMPIONS LEAGUE PREVIEW: Our European football tipster The Ultra previews Wednesday’s Champions League Quarter Final games between DORTMUND v MANCHESTER CITY and LIVERPOOL v REAL MADRID both with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
DORTMUND v MANCHESTER CITY
8pm We have a superb night ahead in the Champions League! We have two very interesting situations going into the second legs, and we start with Dortmund trying to come from 2-1 behind against Man City. Although Man City needed a late goal to win the first leg, they were well on top and deserved to win – indeed xG said that 2-1 was a pretty bang on result. City had one of the most unlucky results at the weekend when losing 2-1 to Leeds – the xG result actually finished 2.56 to 0.09 to City! I’m sure they won’t be bothered however, they played well and already have the Premier League title won given how far in front they are. All their focus will be on the Champions League now, and they were probably thinking more about this fixture last week rather than Leeds at the weekend.
Although Dortmund have been pretty poor in the Bundesliga this season, they have played well in the Champions League. Their games against Sevilla were more open than Sevilla would have liked and they came out on top in a goalfest. Although they lost the first leg, they actually played pretty well considering City are a much better side on paper and they came away with an away goal. If Dortmund could score first we could see a pretty nervous City performance given they don’t really have any experience of success in the Champions League. I’m sure we’ll have some pretty big opinions on BETDAQ Betting Exchange for this game, but for me City are too big at 1.7. Dortmund have given away so many chances in the Bundesliga this season, it’s hard to see how they can stop City going forward. City have been playing excellent football all year and their xG figures have been exceptional. I’d have City trading 1.6, and the 1.7 looks a very good value bet. Given the away goal situation too, City won’t come here just to defend and if they attack Dortmund they will score goals.

LIVERPOOL v REAL MADRID
8pm What a fixture. Liverpool will really miss their fans here, as they would have had Anfield rocking. An early goal would have seen huge pressure on Madrid and although too much is made about fans being an “extra man” it’s this situation where it becomes important. Nevertheless, we are where we are and the show must go on. I said last week that it was a huge week for Real Madrid and they have had a wonderful week. They started with the 3-1 win here in the first leg and then beat Barcelona 2-1 in El Clasico at the weekend. With Atletico only drawing on Sunday, they are only one point off leading La Liga – suddenly they could lift La Liga and the Champions League after their poor start to the season!
The same can’t be said about Liverpool however. They struggled to a 2-1 win over Aston Villa at the weekend needing a 90th minute goal to win. They are still in the fight for a top four finish in the Premier League, but they really need to start playing better football. They gifted Real their lead in the first leg with some terrible errors at the back, and it’s hard to see them not making mistakes here. I feel this is a game for small stakes as Real don’t have to win, but Liverpool look very short at 2.0. They haven’t been impressive an Anfield this season, and they don’t come into the game in good form either. If Real needed a result I would be all over the lay, but a 1-0 loss would see Real through for example so I’m happy to limit stakes. That being said, Liverpool haven’t played well enough to justify this price.
