IPL GAME 9: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Saturday’s game 9 in the IPL between Mumbai Indians v Sunrisers Hyderabad with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

We’re back in Chennai on Saturday as the reigning Champions the Mumbai Indians take on Sunrisers Hyderabad! Sunrisers Hyderabad have had a tough start to the competition with two losses, and they now face arguably the best team in the IPL.
Although Mumbai were levels above everyone else in the last IPL, they haven’t really impressed in their first two games. They managed to win against KKR the last day, but they didn’t bat well and while their bowling got them out of trouble – you did feel that KKR didn’t do themselves any favours. That being said, it’s hard to chase in Chennai on this pitch in these conditions. Mumbai also didn’t bet well in their first game when they lost to RCB – I feel that’s definitely where they need to improve and their mid-to-lower order has to get some runs.
This will be the third game for Hyderabad here, and both times they have lost chasing. They simply conceded too many runs in the first game when they gave away 187/6 against KKR and they probably “should have” chased 149/8 here against RCB but again you have to feel that it’s tricky to chase on this wicket. The last two second inning totals have been 143/9 and 142/7. This should be a very interesting game!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
As I said above, you definitely don’t want to chase in Chennai in my opinion. I know teams can collapse batting first on a tough wicket to score runs, but realistically you have to bat first and make the best use of conditions. I also feel that the wicket is only going to get tougher as the competition goes on – we already had the best batting conditions here, and now twice teams have failed to chase around 150. Although 152 all out and 149/8 have been successfully defended, you’d definitely want to aim for 160ish batting first but if that’s unavailable then try grind to 150 rather than throw your wickets away and end up with something like 130!
RECOMMENDED BET:
While Mumbai haven’t been at their best this season, I still feel that they are too big to beat Hyderabad at 1.7. On Thursday we landed a nice bet on Rajasthan Royals to beat Delhi Capitals at 2.42 and I don’t get the same feeling with Hyderabad here. They have bowled poorly twice here and that loses the game on a tough wicket. The more bad balls the batsmen can put away and ease the pressure the more the game gets away from you. You saw how Mumbai built up the pressure here against KKR with tight bowling, and I can see them doing the same here. Mumbai to outclass Hyderabad.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Although we are starting to see very similar patterns at both venues, Thursday at Mumbai was a reminder that the wicket can change at any moment. In Mumbai, they moved to a green wicket and we saw a lot of movement, whereas we had very high scoring the game before that. The wicket in Chennai has spin and looks tricky for batting, but don’t be surprised if they move wicket one day soon and we see a high score – especially if dew came in. We used to see scores of 200+ here before they stopped play to upgrade the stands, but spin has always been a factor here too.
In terms of trading, I wouldn’t want to be on the batting side for long here. There always seems to be a very wicket around the corner. You can see by the recent scores a lot of wickets have fallen and I’d look for trades on the bowling side. I would heavily favour the team batting first however, as they will get the best use of conditions. I’d also been keen to get against the Hyderabad lower order as they look worth taking on.
