DAQMAN BOWLS TWO OUT OF THREE: NAP AND LANE STRIKE: Daqman landed two winners and a third from three Friday selections for a profit on the day of 16.30. All were at different venues, and he’ll be looking for a similar sweep (hint hint) of the Curragh and Thirsk today.
✔️ WON 11-4 HURRICANE LANE
✔️ WON 4-5 TASFEEQ (nap)
SUPER SUNDAY HAS THE CORAL SCOTTISH GRAND NATIONAL: Sunday has the original Saturday fare of Coral Scottish Grand National and Champion Hurdle plus the Spring trials meeting at Newbury. But don’t miss the chance today of BETDAQ’S % Commission on all sports.
11.5 TRADER TO TRY TO MAKE ALL
⭕ 1.40 Thirsk Mark Johnston has sent out five winners from the front in the last 10 days: Golden Flame, Sir Ron Priestley, Overwrite, Sibaaq and Coupe De Champagne.
One of his losers, trying to make all, was The Trader early last month before the Johnston bandwagon started to roll and that was at Newcastle: The Trader is 0-8 on AW.
The race could well have helped set him up for today’s handicap here on grass over two furlongs further, the trip on the Rowley Mile when he made all last June.
Throne Hall tries to move up to 12 furlongs, after scoring first time as a gelding. Second and third have done nothing for the form since but it’s thought he’ll do better at today’s trip.
Golden Pass looks better than her bare form, as a maiden winner and scorer at class-5 novice level.
Betdaq value The Trader 11.5 is a back and lay
GET US OUT OF THE RABBIT HOLE
⭕ 2.10 Thirsk Roger Varian wasn’t as effective at Newmarket this week, as in previous years but has been scoring elsewhere.
Pierre Lapin, Group-2 winner at Newbury in 2019, drops through the grades for his first run after gelding and could start to recover lost ground on a track where Varian has a 20% strike rate.
Motakhayyel is in the same boat. The Buckingham Palace Handicap and Bunbury Cup winner in a heady summer last year faded out dramatically afterwards and has also been gelded.
Toro Strike is a winner here and ran some cracking races at Goodwood late last summer, after his fifth in the Britannia.
He’s only a pound behind Motakhayyel in the ratings but receives 4lb here. It’s as tricky a race as you’ll wish to see, a real rabbit hole, and there’s plenty more where that came from!
Lays Logic Not as easy for Motakhayyel as the morning market suggests
BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE value Pierre Lapin 5.9
IN THE KNOW FOR THE GLADNESS
⭕ 2.35 The Curragh (Gladness Stakes) Another rabbit hole of form. But four-year-olds are nine out of 10. It’s Team Stack 3, Aidan O’Brien 2, including Lancaster House who goes for back-to-back wins this afternoon.
Lancaster House is five now but has won first time out for two years running, last year making most to beat the favourite, Speak In Colours, who takes him on again just a pound better off.
The six-year-old Speak In Colours’ record in both 2019 and 2010 was to win third time of asking, so wasn’t sharp enough to cope with Lancaster House first time.
Which of the four-year-olds can improve past those two older horses? The 7f maiden winner Fiscal Rules ran a fine second in a Listed dropped to 6f after gelding early this month.
Tom Dascombe travels over with Brad The Brief, who is rated just a pound behind Lancaster House and has had a run on the AW this year. All his form is in sprints and this is his first try at 7f but the pedigree suggests he will do even better for the step up in trip.
But, off the same mark as Lancaster House yet receiving 3lb fillies’ allowance. is Johnny Murtagh’s Group-3 winner Know It All, scorer over today’s CD as a two-year-old, and close up in two Group-1 over a mile last autumn.
Betdaq value Know It All 4.5
BROOME SHOULD SWEEP THIS UP
⭕ 3.10 The Curragh (Alleged Stakes) Four-year-olds again do best (7-10), among them Capri and Magical (2018-19 winners) for Aidan O’Brien who now saddles Broome.
Best of the four-year-olds appears to be Thundering Nights, who has won here at today’s Group-3 level but over 9f.
Her stable also runs Numerian, who was 12 lengths behind Broome in a Listed at Naas in March.
Broome looked back to his best after firing blanks since beaten only half a length, fourth, in a scramble finish for the 2019 Epsom Derby. He had won the Ballysax Derby trial.
