IPL GAME 13: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s game 13 in the IPL between Delhi Capitals v Mumbai Indians with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
It’s a repeat of the 2020 IPL Final on Tuesday as we return to Chennai for Delhi Capitals v Mumbai Indians! This should be a very high quality game of cricket, although it’s fair to say that Mumbai Indians definitely had the Delhi Capitals number in the last IPL which wasn’t so long ago. We saw a very high score in Chennai at the weekend with Royal Challengers Bangalore scoring over 200. Maxwell and de Villiers put on a masterclass but as I said in my pitch report, it’s so hot in Chennai during the day games it can be very difficult for the bowlers.
So, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we returned to tricky batting conditions here. Both sides have pretty strong bowling line-ups and that’s why they made it to the IPL Final last season. They also have a very strong batting and perhaps the toss will decide the match. In my opinion, you simply have to bat first at Chennai. Chasing has looked very difficult here. While there isn’t much between the sides on paper, Mumbai were really on top towards the end of the IPL last season and Delhi just couldn’t handle their side.
Both sides have the same record coming into this fixture with two wins from three games. There’s a little bit of pressure given the strong start of RCB with three wins from three games, and while they wouldn’t say this in public I’d assume both camps will feel RCB will slip up at some point and won’t be challenging at the top of the table. After this game, we’ll have a better idea of who might top the table this season.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
As I said above, we saw a 200+ score here at the weekend but that came in a day game and we could easily get very different conditions here. Indeed, it’s been a very good strategy to go into each game so far in the tournament with a reasonably open mind on conditions. At Mumbai, we’ve seen how dramatically the pitch can change when they move wicket and Chennai is no different. All that being said, I would 100% bat first – I just feel there are a lot more options to winning than chasing. At Mumbai it’s been the opposite, but here if we have a tricky pitch you want to make the most of conditions and if we have a good pitch then you can blast your way to a big score.
RECOMMENDED BET:
An excellent game awaits. We should have a lot of different opinions on BETDAQ Betting Exchange for this game, but for me it’s Mumbai all the way. They dominated Delhi in the Playoffs last season, twice, and before that blew them away in the league section. They might have lost their first game, but Mumbai always lose their first game and then come back strongly. There’s a huge amount of improvement in them too as you wouldn’t say their batting has really fired yet. That’s probably understandable given the batting conditions in Chennai, but their bowling has really been top notch and I’m happy to take the 1.76.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
I know I’ve said this already at the weekend, but I would go into the game with an open mind on conditions. When you see how the pitch is playing, then you can put your plans into action. That being said, you’d be very surprised to see a high score like we had here at the weekend. In the past, and this is going back to before the ground was closed to upgrade the stands, we used to see 200+ in day games and as I said above, it’s very hot during the day and it’s a real struggle for the bowlers. Batting could become very tricky again here and go right back to what it was like last week with 150 being difficult to chase.
Either way, I would heavily favour the team batting first – however at the same time you don’t want to spend long with trades on the batting side if conditions are tough because a wicket is never far away. The Mumbai mid-to-low order has yet to fire, and surely they will come good at some stage. I’d be against the Delhi middle order – their top order is excellent but their mid-to-low order is worth taking on.
