As Pep Guardiola prepares to lead out Manchester City for their first ever Champions League final, Citizens fans will take great hope from their manager’s virtually flawless record in major club finals.
We’ve taken a look at Guardiola’s accomplishments in this week’s Purple Patch.
The Spaniard has stood in the dugout on 15 occasions in finals and incredibly has won 14 of those matches spread across his spells at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and most recently at City.
His only defeat came at the hands of Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid in the 2011 Copa del Rey final, but besides that the 50-year-old has an unblemished record at the business end of tournaments.
During his illustrious career, he’s won four Carabao Cups, one FA Cup, three Club World Cups, two Copa Del Reys and two DFB Pokals, while he’ll be hoping to make it three Champions League successes in Saturday’s final against Chelsea.
And although they lost to the Blues the last time they played them, Guardiola’s record in finals makes them huge favourites as City seek to win a 2020/21 treble.
