⭕ 2.00 Brighton George Boughey, trainer find of the season, is 5-8 at Brighton and, at the last meeting there, his Australia filly Almadrina made sudden improvement.
She’s strengthened up over the winter, says Boughey, who cleverly places her in another mixed handicap where she gets weight from the field, despite a 6lb penalty. I asked for evens this morning.
HEADINGLEY CAN CLEAN BOWL’EM
⭕ 3.50 Hamilton Three-year-olds with Mark Johnston as trainer bid for a hat-trick in this class-2 mile handicap, and the Dawn Approach colt Headingley goes in to bat for them.
He’s won cn firm ground and is blinkered first time off a low mark, which is even lower granted the second-season allowance.
Running Beauty is hot favourite but won in a slower time than when Headingley was third two grades lower.
Chichester won in first time cheekpieces at Carlisle and has kept good company (Good Birthday, Global Spirit, Pivoine).
But the form pick has to be Lincoln third Hortzadar, down the field in the Hunt Cup. The only one used to this grade on a regular basis, and rain would make him clear top of the list.

MARK THIS GAMBLE: ICE IS HOT!
⭕ 8.20 Chepstow Is it another Sir Mark Prescott sequence horse? Word was out last night that Polar Ice is the business at Chepstow tonight but the gamble still left even money and tips against this morning (Betdaq 2.1).
Polar Ice fits the Prescott pattern: after being unfancied (10-1, 20-1, 28-1) in the requisite three maidens, he suddenly leaps forward half a mile from 7f and 1m races to this 1m 4f today.
Even at this level, he’s dropping from class-5 novice events to a class-6 handicap, but is highly likely to be worth up to another stone very quickly, so potentially a class 5 and class 4 climber, even class 3.
Beat The Storm looks exposed: he has already been beaten twice, albeit placed both times in class-6 handicaps.
Sammy Sunshine has also had nine races, winning in class 5 but that was a maiden and he came unstuck (third) on returning to handicaps at Southwell and has not been placed in two starts since.
Sisterandbrother also makes his handicap debut and also jumps up in trip: his first three maiden starts were over 7f.
George Bancroft didn’t make much impression at up to 100-1 in maidens and a novice, and was 59 lengths last of seven on his handicap debut.
Where You At, a bridesmaid in class 5 (form 42330), was third and sixth when dropped to the sixth grade.
