BRITISH CHAMPION CAN ECLIPSE CORAL WORLD LINE-UP OF FORM: With the going in the air, and only four runners, today’s Coral-Eclipse clash of winners mainly abroad is a form and weather dilemma of champions in Dubai, France and Australia, but one has a British Champions title and that’s what gets Daqman’s vote. After a 6-1 strike on Thursday, Euchen Glen (WON 11-4) maintained the winner a day yesterday.

1 ADDEYBB (William Haggas)
FOR: Best trip 1m 2f; winner of six Group races, four of them Group 1, including the 2020 Champion Stakes at Ascot.
It was good, fast ground when, blinkered first time, he won his last race, beating Verry Elleegant, who had held Derby winner Anthony Van Dyck in the 2020 Caulfield Cup. But his best form is on the soft.
AGAINST: The last time a horse older than five won the Eclipse was in 1886 when the whole thing started.
2 ST MARK’S BASILICA (Aidan O’Brien)
FOR: Hat-trick of Dewhurst (7f), French Guineas (1m) and French Derby (1m). All these were on soft-heavy. Gets 10lb age allowance.
AGAINST: The horses he beat in the French Classics were huge prices, as if he beat nothing well. Only good-ground run was when down the field in the National Stakes as a 2yo.
3 MISHRIFF (John and Thady Gosden)
FOR: Best trip 1m 2f; five out of six in 2020 and 2021, showing 21lb improvement, winning on ground from fast to heavy.
AGAINST: Group-1 maiden in England. Best form in France (French Derby) and at Riyadh (Saudi Cup, dirt) and Meydan (Sheema Classic). Poor show in the Champion Stakes, 8th of 10 behind Addeybb.
4 EL DRAMA (Roger Varian)
Has to make up 23 lengths on St Mark’s Basilica on French Derby form.
VERDICT: El Drama is likely to lead but Addeybb likes to be up there, and could hold at bay St Mark’s Basilica, who doesn’t have depth to his form, and Mishriff, a maiden at this level in England and only eighth in the Champion Stakes behind Addeybb.

WE CAN ALL PLAY UP ON SPOOF
⭕ 1.15 Sandown The last time Spoof won a race before last week, he made it a hat-trick within about three weeks, including a win over today’s CD with cut in the ground.
Mokaatil, on the other hand, appears to win when not expected; his last three successes have been at SPs of 16-1, 10-1 and 25-1.
Saaheq and Phoenix Star score only in lower grade, and Lihou has a poor strike-rate on turf (2-23). Bossipop, at age eight, needs to drop a few pounds.

RAIN BIGGEST THREAT TO LAZULI
⭕ 1.50 Sandown (Coral Charge) Three-year-olds are 7-8 in this, with just one winner older than four in the decade.
That seems to make it tough for Arecibo but the form book says he has improved a stone since only sixth (hampered) behind Lazuli in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket in the Spring.
That sparkling success put Lazuli (a Sandown CD winner) into the Fortune Cookies list, and he’s my pick in this if rain doesn’t spoil the day.
One reason for such confidence is that he’s been favourite in seven starts, clearly very highly regarded and has a 50% record (5-10) on turf.
An obvious threat to Lazuli may be Came From The Dark, also not seen since the Palace House when failing by only a neck to catch Lazuli at the same weight difference as today.
But Arecibo has since been second in the Kings Stand Stakes (Keep Busy 5th; Stone Of Destiny 8th).
Of the three-year-olds, Atalis Bay was three lengths at York off Winter Power, who was only 9th in the Kings Stand.
Hidden horse may be the other three-year-old, Happy Romance, who won the Newbury Super Sprint as a juvenile. This is her first run at the minimum since that day.

THIS IS MARK JOHNSTON’S RACE
⭕ 2.05 Haydock After winning this stayers’ handicap in 2018 and 2019, Mark Johnston was second last year with the subsequent Gold Cup winner Subjectivist.
Behind him at Royal Ascot was Emperor Of The Sun (5th), 1m 6f winner of the Levmoss Stakes at Leopardstown in the Spring.
Now here’s the Emperor’s brother, Kondo Isami, second over 1m 6f at Doncaster last month when stablemate Dancing King was completing a four-timer.
Kondo comes into this 3lb better off with Tashkan, whom he beat at the York Dante meeting.
The Frankel colt, Harlem Soul, is another improving stayer of Johnston’s, and you have to back both, with BETDAQ offers in your favour.

Trais Fluors had won at Sandown convincingly earlier last month and Oisin Murphy has been booked to ride today.
You don’t need a maths degree to give Pythagoras a big chance. Not disgraced behind Hurricane Lane in the Dante, drops back to his winning trip of a mile today.

⭕ 3.15 Haydock (Old Newton Cup) Zabeel Champion represents Mark Johnston, who has won this race three times in the last eight seasons.
But he’s 3lb worse off with Grand Bazaar, whom he beat only a nose and a short-head at Newmarket in May.
And both Aaddeey and Alounak are better off at the weights and with a chance of catching him on Royal Ascot form, when he was third in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes on heavy ground.
Alounak is thrown in, almost a stone, on last year’s decent efforts in Group company, and Brilliant Light could also bounce back.
We have seen very little of the giant Ebor hope, Longsider; when we have, he’s won well. If Soto Sizzler is on good behaviour, he can turn around Epsom form with Midnights Legacy.
