FAVOURITES FOR ROYAL ASCOT FOLLOW-UP ARE BEATEN: After Royal Ascot, Daqman questioned whether seconds and thirds at the five-day meeting were worth following, revealing last year’s shocking results as a sample, when 18 races had just one winner or none at all subsequently from horses placed behind the winner. Today he lists the seven returns so far from the 2021 meeting (2-2 SP favourites beaten) and those that are running later this week.

ASCOT: YOU’RE IN A BEARS MARKET
You win some, you lose some. But mostly – so far, at least – you would have more losers if you had followed placed horses from last month’s Royal Ascot meeting. They simply do not have a god-given right to win.
If they do score, I suggest that they provide a big boost for the winner of that particular royal race and he or she should be followed.
It all started in Daqman on Tuesday, June 22 (Forget The Ascot Placed Horses) which showed, at the top of the list, a dozen races at the 2020 meeting that have produced only SIX winners from the 162 races they’ve run in since.
The top 18 races each produced only one future winner or none at all! So a simplistic approach of backing those who got nearest to the winners (many of them overbet) was a very expensive failure.

Broome boosts Wonderful Tonight, who beat him in the Hardwicke at Ascot, and Go Bears Go boosts the Norfolk Stakes win of Perfect Power.
Royal Ascot placed horses engaged this week to run for the first time since are: Boomshalaa, Dig Two, Dream Composer, Golden Rules, Hello You, Hukum, Lady Bowthorpe, Lope Y Fernandez, Oscula, Queen Power, Vadream.
WALIYAK TO PIP ‘EM
⭕ 3.00 Pontefract (Pipalong Stakes) Listed action the highlight on an otherwise modest Tuesday.
Two defectors, on account of the soft ground, still leaves a competitive heat with a strong southern challenge.
Sir Michael Stoute’s Lights On shouldn’t be hindered by the ground. She was a soft ground winner in May at Ascot and could well have done with the heavens opening earlier during Royal Ascot week as she was only eighth in the Kensington Palace Handicap behind Lola Showgirl when it was good to firm underneath.
Third that day though was Waliyak who is taken to confirm the form. The Roger Varian trained runner should be suited by this stiff mile and also has plenty of previous on soft (and heavy). She was reappearing after a 273 day break at Ascot and can build on that effort for her trainer who is now 8 from his last 34 runners.
The pair should dominate although interesting to see some BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE support for the complete outsider of the field Dalanijujo who was sixth in the Royal Ascot/Lola Showgirl race but reappears on worse terms and has no form at all on testing ground so it’s a leap of faith. Backers though will take comfort from the fact this race has popped up some big winners in recent years, the last four winners have been: 14/1, 11/1, 25/1 and 11/1.
‘DELPHIE’ LOVES THE GROUND
⭕ 4.10 Pontefract Delgrey Boy is becoming costly to follow as has been a beaten favourite in each of his four starts since winning at Ripon but has placed each time.
There’s a question mark about the ground too and the fact he might need some relief from the handicapper. At odds-on, no thanks.
Preference is for Richard Fahey’s Delph Crescent who will be very much suited by the prevailing conditions.

⭕ 5.15 Pontefract The market is made by Ava Go Joe which throws up some value alternatives.
The Kevin Ryan trained runner Sound Reason has no form on soft so I’ll chance Virginia Plane whose sole turf win came on soft.
