FRIDAY NIGHT IS DUNDALK NIGHT: Action in Ireland comes from Dundalk who stage a regular seven race card this evening kicking off with a two-year-old race at 6.15.

Amazingly in the opener, a two-year-old race, there’s a horse with form! Gathering Power finished fifth in the first juvenile race of the season at the Curragh last Sunday and puts that form to an early test. The winner of the race Dawn Approach looked useful but on a different surface tonight and against five debutants you’ll understand this is not a race for me to have a bet in.

I was quite taken by the way in which Exhortation ran on his racecourse debut at Leopardstown last season when third to Akeed Mofeed. Although beaten seven lengths the winner went on to finish runner-up in a Group 2 and the 7.45 race tonight should be his for the taking. Interestingly trainer Dermot Weld has put the blinkers on tonight. He could easily attempt to make all the running.

I got the place lay right on Thursday and I’m against Haleniya for a place in the finale. It was only a modest maiden she won at Tramore and is saddled with top weight of 10 stone here which looks tough on her reappearance after 231 days.

We need to get her out the top four with 17 runners in the race.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Exhortation (7.45 Dundalk)
PLACE LAY: Haleniya (9.15 Dundalk)
