IPL: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Monday’s IPL game between Rajasthan Royals v Kolkata Knight Riders with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Rajasthan Royals v Kolkata Knight Riders
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The IPL rolls into another week on BETDAQ Betting Exchange and we start at the Brabourne stadium as Rajasthan Royals meet Kolkata Knight Riders! Both sides will be reasonably pleased with how they started the tournament, but they are sitting just outside the Playoff places. In that sense, this is a pretty big game for both sides – lose and the challenge of getting into the top four gets a little bit more difficult, while win and you’re in a nice position. Rajasthan Royals have played one game less than Lucknow Super Giants, RCB and Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of them too.
The bottom three at the moment is Mumbai Indians, CSK and Delhi Capitals which is unbelievable considering one of those three has topped the table over the last three years – sometimes even in a one/two finish. This year the tournament has really opened up, and Rajasthan Royals and KKR both look solid enough to reach the Playoffs in my view. Rajasthan have been carried by Jos Buttler at the start of the tournament, and the other players need to start chipping in now. For KKR, we all know that their bowling is superb – up there with the best in the tournament, but their batting needs work.
This will be a fascinating game when you look at the strong points from either side. Batting in Rajasthan’s strong point, while bowling is KKR’s strong point – it’s very likely that the match will be decided when those two meet in either the first or the second innings! However, given how unreliable the KKR batting has been perhaps they will lose the game there, again.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We’re back at the Brabourne stadium today and this ground has been the highest scoring ground this season. In my preview here on Saturday, I wondered would the scores continue to be high given there was going to be no dew and that it was a day game – indeed we saw a big score with Lucknow Super Giants scoring 199/4 and although Mumbai failed to chase it down they still scored 181/9 – plus they have been poor with the bat this season. I would fully expect another high scoring game here – obviously you’d have to have a little worry about KKR’s batting but conditions will be good for batting. KKR managed 175/8 in their game here, which was chased down in just 17.5 overs.
RECOMMENDED BET:
As I said above, it’s a very interesting dynamic here. The major clash here is the Rajasthan batting v the KKR bowling. Both are very impressive, and I’ll be very interested to see who comes out on top. I believe Rajasthan will have a slight edge there, just because this ground looks very tilted towards the batters, however I feel the market has gone too far here. Rajasthan were a little disappointing in their last game, and I know KKR have had some heavy defeats but I believe the 2.18 is worth having a small bet on KKR here. In such a high scoring ground, it will pay to be on the best bowling attack in my view. I know KKR have struggled with the bat, but the good batting conditions should really help – and they have the talent to put up a high score – they just have to deliver. Keep stakes small, but KKR are the value for me.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
So far at the Brabourne stadium we’ve had first inning scores of 177/5 (chased), 210/7 (chased), 180/8 (defended), 189/4 (chased), 215/5 (defended), 175/8 (chased) and 199/4 (defended). This has been a high scoring ground consistently, and I was definitely look for trades on the batting side for most of the game. As you can see above, the scores aren’t always chased down so once the score starts getting over 195ish it looks tricky – perhaps in that sense the best angle here is getting on the side who bats first, but definitely spend a lot of time looking for signs of dew here. Heavy dew is always a nightmare for the bowlers, and it definitely pays to look for a trade on the batting side in that case.
