IRISH GUINEAS: 998 DAQMAN ON EDGE: Daqman, who leads Pricewise 22-13 this season, has landed 998 winning bets all told against his arch-rival. They do battle again today, with Daqman hoping to get the 1,000 up in the three days of Classic cards at the Curragh Guineas meeting, which opens this afternoon.
THE PLAYS THE THING WITH PROSPERO: Daqman continued in form yesterday when he tipped My Prospero (WON 7-4) to score at Sandown Park last night.
EMOTION TO LAND OAKS TRIAL
⭕ 2.10 Goodwood (Height Of Fashion Stakes) The Lupe Stakes for fillies and the Predominate for colts – the final trials for the Epsom Oaks and Derby – are nowadays run as the Height Of Fashion and, later on today’s card, the Cocked Hat Stakes.
It’s timely that the Height Of Fashion should be featured in honour of The Queen’s eponymous mare who won the Lupe for Dick Hern in 1982 and was dam of Nashwan, the 1989 Guineas and Derby winner.
But I’m knocked into a cocked hat as to why they haven’t named the old Predominate after its most illustrious winner, Troy (1979), who went on to take two Derbys and the King George. Troy was also trained by Dick Hern.
The Height Of Fashion trial has had an Oaks third (Lady of Dubai 2015) and not much else, since Snow Fairy followed up with the Oaks double in 2010, when the Lupe and the Epsom Oaks were about the same distance apart time-wise as they are now.
Two daughters of Frankel clash in the race today: Emotion, who was unchallenged in breaking her maiden at Kempton, after running down the field in Emily Upjohn’s prep at Sandown, and Eternal Pearl.
Eternal Pearl ran in a strong heat at Ascot (1m on firm) last month, won by Grande Dame, a Team Gosden stablemate of Emotion.
Makeinmedoit was third in the Lingfield Oaks Trial to Rogue Millenium, and Sea Silk Road finished well clear of a Gosden lesser light at Nottingham.
Viareggio weakened in the final furlong of the Leopardstown 1,000 Guineas Trial behind Homeless Songs, one of the favourites for the real thing at the Curragh on Sunday. BETDAQ value 3.7 Emotion
⭕ 2.30 Haydock Cecil Frail (Listed) Sense Of Duty was a very easy winner at Redcar, where she was ‘looking for a bit more education,’ after a wide-margin win at Newbury. She is the real deal now at BETDAQ value 3.3.
LYSANDER LINING UP THE DERBY
⭕ 3.20 Goodwood (Cocked Hat Stakes) This trial’s recent claim to fame was producing St Leger winner, Masked Marvel in 2011. He was also trained by Gosden, who has won three more in the last decade.
Fields are usually small but it is still notable for punting purposes that eight of the last 10 winners came out of the low four stalls.
So it seems unlikely that we can expect a brave new world, with Aldous Huxley, out of stall 2 for Team Gosden today, suggesting the story as before.
But the colt, described as a big baby who needs a galloping track, doesn’t strike me as one to take a short price about on this turning switchback, following the demise of his Newmarket conqueror, New London, in the Chester Vase.
Inverness also ran in a Derby test, the Blue Riband Trial, at Epsom, and was put in his place by Nahanni. Inverness could win a handicap at the Derby meeting or Royal Ascot with this under his belt.
But the one for me here with a Group-race future is Lysander, from the William Haggas yard, striking at 47%. He ran right away from his field at Newcastle, and could still earn a place in one of the Derbys.

⭕ 5.25 The Curragh (Gallinule Stakes) Boundless Ocean misses tomorrow’s Irish 2,000 Guineas mile for this Group-3 which is 10 furlongs.
He was a winner over this 1m 2f trip when breaking his maiden in April but was disappointing in the Newmarket Guineas.
Anchorage comes out about the same horse as Boundless Ocean, who was bumped when a length behind him, third and fifth, in a Group-3 in October. The runner-up, Piz Badile, beat Buckaroo a short–head in the Ballysax, and is well fancied for the Derby.
Hannibal Barca is top rated here but that hinges entirely on his fourth in the Doncaster Futurity, from which only the winner, Luxembourg, has gone any way to franking the form (third in the Newmarket Guineas).
Lyrical Poetry pulverised a big field in a Gowran Park maiden in April and the five-lengths-plus runner-up has won since.
