CORNER THE MARKET AT 18.0 ON BETDAQ: Shamrock goes for a ‘Cranky’ bet today, 18.0 on BETDAQ in a race at Tipperary, where he also takes the perverse view of opposing the odds-on favourite in the opener.
A big-odds winner is just around the corner. It was a long road back for Carlow trainer, ‘Shark’ Hanlon, but he’s among the winners again now and it’s a short haul down the motorway to Tipperary today.
Hanlon has just the one runner, Cranky Corner (18.0 on BETDAQ this morning for the 7.25), at last expected to show his true form now that the yard has bounced back and, in the interim, ‘Cranky’ has crept down the handicap.
Another at rewarding odds may be Clubland (5.25) – I took 10.0 on BETDAQ this morning – with the trainer jockey combo two from two when they have teamed up here. Has the high draw needed in sprints on this course.
A betting move pricks your ears on a day of huge fields, and I was surprised to see Dollies Child (5.55) in to 7.0 first time out from a paper-forecast 20-1.
If the fields are not large, they are ludicrously small in the case of the two-year-old starter, where I’m being perverse again: I shall nap Michael Mulvany to follow up last year’s win through Tough As Nails with Pat Smullen booked for Chips Are Down (4.55).
SHAMROCK’S BETS
NAP: Chips Are Down (4.55 Tipperary)
WIN AND PLACE: Clubland (5.25 Tipperary), Dollies Child (5.55 Tipperary), Cranky Corner (7.25 Tipperary)
