Chelsea’s win at the Nou Camp was an immense achievement and the players deserve all the plaudits they get for their efforts. Roberto Di Matteo once again pulled off a masterstroke as manager and he can do no wrong at the minute.
This weekend Premier League takes centre stage again as the Blues try and secure a Champions League spot with a top four finish should things go wrong in Munich. The fans will want to show their appreciation to the players on Sunday and there’ll be added spice with QPR the next to visit. Chris Foy sent off Jose Bosingwa and Didier Drogba in the first meeting as QPR edged it 1-0. With the form the Blues are on I fancy them to turn the tables and get the points needed to crank up the pressure on Tottenham.
Harry Redknapp must be wondering what’s happened to his side over the past few weeks in a run that has seen them win just once in six league games. Spurs now trail Newcastle by three points, who occupy fourth spot, and they cannot afford any more slip ups.
Spurs entertain Blackburn at White Hart Lane, who finally put an end to a run of five straight defeats by beating Norwich 2-0 last weekend. The problem for Rovers is that they have really struggled on the road and Spurs look a good shout to get back to winning ways in the nick of time.
It’s fitting that this round of Premier League fixtures will sign off with the simply huge Manchester derby. This contest has been penciled in for months as a potential title decider, but not many will have thought that there would be so much riding on it with United holding an eight point lead a few weeks back.
Whatever people say, the pressure is all on Roberto Mancini’s side. City have to win, United just need to draw to leave them in the driving seat with two games to play. My head keeps telling me that Sir Alex Ferguson cannot let his grip on the title slip and they have the right players to help them over the line.
United are packed full of experience and that counts for so much at this stage of the season. However, this side is not a scratch on some of the former United starting XIs. City have rallied well in recent games and their home form remains imperious with Sunderland’s draw being the only blemish.
I expect United to be far tighter at the back following the Everton game and with that I’m happy to lay City at around 2.1 on Betdaq.
