PEARL POWERS HOME FOR DAQMAN’S NAPS: Daqman landed a fourth winning nap out of six yesterday when Eternal Pearl (WON 6-4) surged through her field under William Buick at Newmarket. Today’s nap to land the hat-trick and make it five in one week’s English racing runs in the Royal Lodge Stakes (BETDAQ 6.8 taken).

03 Protagonist (William Haggas, form 3-43) Drawn far side. Backed up defeat of Savvy Victory when led early and again two out to beat a big field at Sandown, giving 4lb to the runner-up, Dual Identity. Both races 1m 2f.
06 Dual Identity (William Knight 0-13) Drawn far side. Stepped upon class-4 win at Sandown when second at Sandown (see Protagonist)
07 Kitsune Power (Roger Varian 17-56) Ratings rise and rise (form 121021) by a stone since the Spring interrupted by six-lengths 12th in the Britannia at Royal Ascot.
05 Night Of Luxury, 11 First View, 12 Electrical Storm Along with Brilliant Light (see below) all trained Saeed Bin Suroor (3-11). First View four times a mile winner, down the field in the John Smith’s Cup. Electrical Storm just one win and rating peaked at 92. Night Of Luxury raised a stone for three wins over 1m 2f.
13 Savvy Victory (Sean Woods 1-3) Middle draw. Winner twice (1m 2f) with cut in the ground, and beaten a nose in receipt of 3lb by Protagonist.
14 Majestic Dawn (Paul and Oliver Cole 0-6) Middle draw. Listed winner at Goodwood (1m 2f good to soft) and beaten a short neck in a Group 3 at Deauville.
15 Totally Charming (George Boughey 6-61) Back-to-back mile wins in the Spring; ninth in the Royal Hunt Cup. Needs rain.
16 Mujtaba (William Haggas 3-43) Could cross over to near side. Unbeaten last year; returned to form in 1m 2f handicap in first-time tongue-tie (4lb penalty but due to go up another 3lb). Stable has had phenomenal season but never won the Cambridgeshire.
18 Injazati (Charlie Fellowes 5-25) Could cross over to near side. Lightly raced, fifth in similar handicap here in October last year, after a 1m 2f hat-trick, climbing the ranks. Big-field specialist Jamie Spencer a significant booking. The more rain the better.
19 Bell Rock (Andrew Balding 11-56) CD winner Spring of 2021; modest form since until dropped 12lb and third to Mujtaba (1m 2f) early this month.
20 Perotto (Marcus Tregoning 2-9) Britannia winner at Royal Ascot in field of 29 (June last year) off a rating of 99. Six of 11 runs since have been in Group company. Rating has dropped 7lb in the last year and will relish strong pace.
21 Austrian Theory (Charlie and Mark Johnston 7-68) Group placed as a 2yo but just one class-2 success at Hamilton (GF) this season, dropped to Listed and then handicaps.
22 Magical Morning (John and Thady Gosden 10-38) Beaten a head in 18-runner handicap at York last summer and did well again on autumn ground, third in the Balmoral Handicap at Ascot but only 23rd in the Cambridgeshire.
23 Brilliant Light (Saeed bin Suroor 3-11) Winner three times over 1m 2f plus. Fifth of 22 John Smith’s Cup at York and second (short of room) to Forest Falcon in Chesterfield Cup at Goodwood: 4lb better off now.
24 Forest Falcon (Charlie and Mark Johnston 7-68) Won the Zetland Gold Cup in June. With Brilliant Light, one-two in the Chesterfield Cup: 4lb worse off for threeparts of a length win but ran on strongly to the line and eased towards the finish.
25 Ouzo (Jamie Osborne 1-9) Won 20-runner soft-ground handicap over a mile at York (2020); fourth 2021 Royal Hunt Cup. Trainer and jockey in form recently.
26 Majestic (Mick Channon 4-31) Won only a novice event but unexposed after eight races, and sixth in strong Newbury handicap last weekend.
27 Lucander (Ralph Beckett 6-35) Five wins including 1m 2f+ class-2 handicap on soft at York in 2020 as prelude to second in the Cambridgeshire. Back to same mark here but only sixth in same prep race (blinkers will now be applied). Trainer having tremendous season.
28 Jimi Hendrix (Ralph Beckett 6-35) From Lucander’s stable; soft-ground winner 7f and third in the Britannia at Royal Ascot (firm) when led, headed final furlong.
29 Arqoob (William Jarvis 0-6) Winner 1m (2) and 1m 2f on firm ground but well down the field at Goodwood in the Chesterfield Cup.

⭕ 1.50 Newmarket (Royal Lodge Stakes) Like yesterday’s Rockfel with Cachet, it was the runner-up to last year’s Royal Lodge winner (2,000 Guineas hero Coroebus) who is remembered. The winner, Royal Patronage, lost his next seven races (placed only in one of them).
Aidan O‘Brien has chosen Greenland today from four left in at the five-day stage. He won easily the last day after an unlucky run in a Tipperary Listed behind Hellsing, who could get a boost from Greenland for the Goffs Million at the Curragh later on.
Godolphin’s dual odds-on winner Flying Honours is even longer odds on now, and BETDAQ 6.8 Greenland is big on changing ground.
12.5 SWINGALONG TO SURPRISE
⭕ 2.05 Haydock Charles Hills has struck form with two winners in the last three days including Mutasaabeq all the way at Newmarket yesterday.
Wanees is back to his winning trip after gelding; goes well when fresh and likes cut in the ground. It was a very open market so I had two bets this morning.
A fresh animal today, Akhu Najla seemed to disappoint at Sandown after a six-lengths romp at York in the Spring. But now we inow that he was placed behind the St James’s Palace third rated 114 and another placed at Royal Ascot off 113.

⭕ 2.25 Newmarket (Cheveley Park Stakes) This has gone to the Irish for the last six years, largely through Aidan O’Brien (5).
O’Brien relies on Meditate, but she is now only a pound in front of Trillium after that one’s Flying Childers win for Richard Hannon.
Meditate’s Curragh form was let down by Olivia Maralda yesterday and she was mopped up by Tahiyra in the Moyglare. Dropping back to 6f will help.
Swingalong has nearly six lengths to make up on Trillium (Newbury, July) but her Lowther Stakes swoop suggests she is a stone and a half better now. The handicapper agrees.

⭕ 2.40 Haydock Count d’Orsay was second in this race two years ago, third in the Portland the last day, and is down the handicap.
But the youngsters (aged 3 and 4) are 10-0 up in the decade, mainly from the front of the market, where Equality looks another for Charles Hills; likes an easy surface and back to form, pipped a short head at Windsor the last day.

3.00 Newmarket (Middle Park Stakes) The ratings rightly suggest a three-way battle between Blackbeard (115), Gimcrack runner-up Marshman (113) and Persian Force (112).
Blackbeard held on only half a length over Persian Force in the Prix Morny, with The Antarctic third, and Mischief Magic has improved well for a hat-trick in six weeks.

⭕ 3.20 The Curragh (Goffs Million, 2yo, 7f) On a line through Fleetfoot, Hiawatha deserves a rating up there with Al Riffa (115), who would be a stone and more ahead of all bar Hellsing (form let down by the runner-up, Papilio).
But that raises the question: how good is The Franchise, who is a stable companion of Al Riffa, and is he yet too green to deliver?
