GREYHOUND PREVIEW: A look back on Good Cody’s win in the Irish Laurels and ahead to The Arc Classic semi-finals from Sunderland on Thursday night and Friday night’ss Romford Card.
Good Cody now a Great
Good Cody has now added an Irish Laurels victory to his name as he ran out a determined winner of the Friends and Supporters of Cork Greyhound Racing Irish Laurels at Curraheen Park on Saturday night.
Picking up the running at the expense of early pace setter Serene Ace, Cody held off the late challenge of Ballymac Whispa with Swords Rex just behind back in third place. Cody has now won the Irish Sprint Cup, the Kingdom Derby as well as being crowned last years Sprinter of the Year at the National Greyhound Awards. Our Congratulations to owner John Kennedy and Cody’s excellent trainer, Patrick Guilfoyle.
Arc Classic Sunderland on Thursday
Three semi-finals of the Sunderland Arc Classic are up for decision on Thursday evening with the top two from each semi making it to next week’s final.
In the first semi-final Mindhowyougo is expected to lead up and he will be hoping to make all, Paisley Pearl ran well in a hot contest last week, but I feel she will need to lead Mindhowyougo if she’s top emerge on top.
On paper the second of the semis is red hot, Move Over Cha was an ultra-impressive winner last week when making all in a blistering time of 27.06. Moanteen Mikey was another to impress when he won his heat stopping the clock in 27:01, however, it’s Brookside Richie who is likely to go off favorite, Richie is as short as 7/4 for outright success and to illustrate the class in this second semi-final the top three in the Ante-Post list all line up in this including the afore mentioned Moanteen Mikey and Mover Over Cha. Possibly Brookside Richie could shade it, but it’s a tricky event from a punting perspective.
The last of the semi-finals is wide open with the early pace expected to come from the middle boxes. Gortcloss Pat (3) displayed fine early pace and will look to lead up Tell Boy (4) and Paisleys China (5). If doing so the big finishers will have plenty of traffic to pass in the latter stages. He should go well at a decent price.
Romford Friday Night
As usual Romford will host another cracking card on Friday night live on RPGTV. March On Rudy will hopefully get us off to a good start in the 18:43, the youngster has shown promise in trials and is well drawn in the red jacket.
Ardera Siskin could have the race run to suit in the 18:58. Not noted for her early pace she should secure a clean run early before picking her way through rivals in the second half of the race, a five-dog race will aid her cause also.
In the 19:56 Jura Go Max is the one to side with. Well drawn in trap four he should be able to clear the runners on his inside and he has some good form around here on his day, if leading he will be tough to peg back.
Finally, Urry Up Peejay is worth a bet in the 21:12 on the card. There’s not a lot of early pace in this contest and it would be no surprise to see Urry Up Peejay turn closer to the pace than usual. She doesn’t have a great record over the trip but the make up of the race will suit and at a big price she should go well.
