CHELTENHAM LOST BUT EIGHT RACES AT NEWCASTLE: All Jumps racing in England, including the December Gold Cup at Cheltenham has been lost to the frost today, leaving terrestrial television covering the eight-race Newcastle (Tapeta) card.
TOMORROW: Punchestown tomorrow has gone already; Cork takes a look later today and Southwell (jumps) inspects tomorrow morning. Otherwise Newcastle keeps centre stage.
UP THE RED TO HIT SEVEN STRIKES
⭕ 1.09 Newcastle The opening mile handicap sees a meeting of five CD winners and two other course winners on the Tapeta here.
Yet the one likely to take them along is Novak, though he hasn’t lasted 7f at this level recently.
Maybe they can anchor Iain Jardine’s grey but he is used to running freely, and is out of stall 3.
Best placed of the course lovers is Broctune Red (from 5). He’s six times a winner from 29 starts at Newcastle, and has been second the last three visits.
Betdaq Betting Exchange 13.5 Broctune Red
EXPENSIVE PALACE IS VALUE AT 5.2
⭕ 1.44 Newcastle This first division of a mile novice has been a playground for southern trainers with, again, a low draw best.
That suggests the Crisford’s Kingman colt Laser Guided from the one stall, and Alhambra Palace (3) for William Haggas.
The 230,000-guinea Haggas yearling was well beaten on debut in October but was a market mover with bookies overnight so maybe the 5.2 on BETDAQ is good value.
GETTING READY FOR A DREAM FINAL
⭕ 2.19 Newcastle Team Crisford got the split, with Intricacy likely to be odds-on with bookies for this second division of the novice.
The purchase price of this 750,000euros son of Dubawi could have bought Red Bird (360,000 guineas) and Wonder Legend (220,000euros) put together.
But the one likely to be precocious is Dream Final related to several winners at 5f, with the dam’s side responsible for a European Oaks winner. Very appropriate for tonight’s match!
BETDAQ value 2.20 Intricacy, 39 Dream Final
⭕ 2.54 Newcastle Enemy has had a break for wind surgery and, as Group-3 placed at Ascot in the Sagaro Gold Cup trial, could have a good winter on AW.
The five-year-old won on the Chantilly Polytrack before moving to Ian Williams, who has just notched up 300 winners on man-made surfaces.
GOING TO POST AT 11.0 ON BETDAQ
⭕ 3.28 Newcastle One More Dream has climbed the ratings a few pounds more since winning back-to-back over this CD in October, completing a hat-trick at Chelmsford when stepping up to 7f.
Blazing Son is looking for the hat-trick today, after scoring at Redcar, then here at Newcastle.
Mark Winn, claimed off for 3lb when landing a gamble at Redcar, could claim 5lb at Newcastle and can do so again today.
Motawaazy was an inspired punt this morning, back to form the last day at Southwell.
Emily Post is dropping back a furlong but the one-time poor starter is now able to go with the pace and just held on over the seven on the last day here.
BETDAQ value 3.65 One More Dream, 5 Blazing Son, 11 Emily Post, 13.5 Motawaazy
HE CAN POCKET DOUBLE HAT-TRICK
⭕ 4.00 Newcastle I don’t usually take on a three-day follow-up but Pocket The Packet won without too much exertion earlier in the week and is clearly thought hot for a double hat-trick. At 2.5 on BETDAQ this morning.
‘Double’ hat-trick because winner the last twice and because he also landed a double, back to back, over the 6f at Newcastle in the early autumn.
