THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Friday’s 2nd Test between INDIA v AUSTRALIA with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
India and Australia do battle again in Delhi as we roll into the 2nd Test on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. India absolutely blew Australia away in the 1st Test, and of course we’ve had plenty of drama off the field. The Aussie’s aren’t happy with the batting conditions, but the reality is they are in India, and India are going to ask for spinning wickets. All the evidence was there before the off, and to be honest why wouldn’t India ask for another three spinning wickets after seeing the Aussie reaction to the 1st Test?
We all love a bit of spice and the sides not liking each other, but I felt it was a real shame when BCCI moved the 3rd Test from Dharamsala to Indore. The fans would have had travel and accommodation booked in advance which is a real blow for travelling Aussie fans – especially when there were already huge concerns about the Dharamsala outfield when the series was announced. Whatever happens, and wherever it happens, Australia need to find a way to play spin. We’ve been here before obviously, Australia are known for not playing spin well – but they are looking at a series whitewash here if they don’t start to handle the turning ball.
Of course with a spinning wicket, it is likely to be play slow and low, which takes the edge off the Aussie quicks too. India are well within their rights to prepare these wickets – we are in India after all, I’m sure they next time they play in Australia we will see some green seaming wickets! With Australia all out for 177 and 91, plus having the advantage of batting first, it’s hard to see them winning a Test to be honest.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
Delhi is well known for hosting the IPL and T20 more so than Test cricket. They are also well known for some dodgy wickets because we can see some very difficult batting conditions here – in 2009 an ODI had to be called off because the wicket was unfit. In the IPL here, we see a range of scores and I really wouldn’t be surprised if India have asked for a wicket with plenty of spin in it. It’s not something that would be a surprise in Delhi anyway, we do see some low scoring T20 matches here too. Because of the “Smog Incident” in 2017 and then Covid19 of course, there hasn’t been a Test here since 2017 – Delhi is well known for its air pollution but it is good to see Test cricket back here. That Test in 2017 was a draw but Delhi was usually a result venue. Only two Test from the last 13 have ended with a draw.
RECOMMENDED BET:
While the margin of victory might not be as wide as the 1st Test, it’s really hard to see past an Indian win here. I have to say, after all the comments from the Aussie’s it already looks like India have won the mental battle. If you were India, you’d be demanding a spinning wicket to get into the Aussie heads even more. The reality is that Australia just don’t play spin very well, and they will always have huge issues in the middle order. India are in a great place at the moment, and they are worth backing again at 1.53.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
I really don’t see a draw here, and the market is thinking the same given the prices. It’s rare we see a draw price starting at around 7.0, however just because a draw is very unlikely doesn’t mean it might be a good trade at some stage. I would definitely bat first if I won the toss, and would expect a slight edge for the team batting first – however as we saw in the 1st Test if that’s Australia they will still struggle with conditions. If India bat first I can see the draw hanging around and Australia drifting out as India post a decent score, then I’d expect India to bowl Australia out and get right on top from there. The key to trading this match will be to avoid the Aussie batting!
