8pm What a night on BETDAQ Betting Exchange on Wednesday. This is what the Champions League was made for. Manchester City and Real Madrid clash in the second leg of their Semi-Final with a scores level at 1-1 after the first leg. Perhaps the tie could have been set up a little better with Real Madrid having a lead, given how strong Manchester City have looked this season, but we have a night to saviour ahead here. This should be fantastic viewing.
Both sides won at the weekend, Manchester City strolling to a win over Everton on Sunday and Real Madrid never out of first gear with a 1-0 win over Getafe. Real have eased off in La Liga for a number of weeks now, but they picked up the Copa del Rey before the first leg and I feel they surprised a few football fans in the first leg too. Everyone just expected City to blow Real away, but you have to say this Real Madrid side really do turn up to the big games. They just do it time and time again. Everyone expected Manchester City to get through Real last season, and the rest is history.
I’m sure Guardiola and City will be feeling the pressure heading into this tie. The Champions League is what they have been aiming towards for so long now, and you could say they have been the “best” side in Europe for three or four years now; just unable to deliver in the big moments. They look stronger than ever with Haaland up front though, and they have been finishing the Premier League season like a train too. It’s hard to find many negatives about City to be honest. They concede on average less than an xG of 1.0 in the Premier League and create close to 2.5. Stats you can’t knock!
Real Madrid have impressive stats domestically too, however as I mentioned above I wouldn’t read too much into their recent La Liga form. Since losing the latest El Clasico the gap was too big to close, and Real’s focus has been elsewhere. They’ve gone toe-to-toe with City in the past, and I would expect them to fight fire-with-fire if they go behind. We should have a very entertaining game, especially if we have an early goal. However, I feel everyone was expecting an entertaining game in the first leg but it turned out to be quite cagey. The xG figures were very low, it wasn’t like it was an open game and the sides just didn’t take their chances.
Manchester City come into the game trading as the odds on favourites. They are 1.64 at the time of writing with Real Madrid 5.6 and the draw is 4.6. For those of you expecting goals, Over 2.5 goals is trading 1.63 so only one tick between goals and a City win. I’m sure there will be plenty of debate around which is the better bet! For me, it’s a City win at 1.64. They have looked absolutely superb this season, and they have been faultless in the Premier League. I know Real pretty much closed them down in the first leg, but that came at a cost of their own game – Real didn’t create that much, and it’s hard to see them creating more here. City have been very impressive with home advantage this season, and I can’t see past the home win here. At 1.64, City are worth a Max Bet for me.
