THE SECOND SHALL BE FIRST.. So near and yet so far for Daqman yesterday: Nachtrose (2nd 9-1 from BETDAQ 15.5), Live Your Dream (2nd 9-2), Equilateral (2nd 3-1), El Caballo (hampered 3rd 11-4). Now he wants a change of luck before Royal Ascot, as he sprinkles small stakes around Beverley and Goodwood.

FAHEY’S FLYING TWO-YEAR-OLDS

CHECK out trainer Richard Fahey’s score in the last 14 days and you get six winners but, on closer inspection, ALL SIX have been two-year-old strikes.

The 57-year-old Nigerian-born, Yorkshire-based Irishman (yes, all of that) landed a juveniles double at Beverley yesterday, one colt having his second success, Bombay Bazaar, and one filly, Midnight Affair, in the track’s prestigious Hilary Needler Trophy.

Fahey describes 2023 as his ‘best year for two-year-olds’ but is not hurrying them; he has had no AW runners and just nine turf winners all told (25% strike) but still hopes to be represented at Royal Ascot: ‘they will run as they mature and then improve on that.’

Bombay Bazaar (2), Emperor’s Son, Flaccianello, Golden Mind, Malc, Midnight Affair, Native American, and Pretty Crystal are the nine.

Oisin Murphy landed a double at Beverley yesterday but the other Oisin (5ft 11in Oisin Orr) rode a super race on Bombay Bazaar, a Kodiac who was scoring back-to-back at Beverley, improving every one of three races and the most mature of the Fahey juveniles.

The stable’s two-year-olds running next week: Military Miss and She’s A Gambler (Tuesday at Wetherby), Silent Move (Tuesday at Ayr or Haydock on Wednesday), Blue Prince and Gamraan (Haydock Wednesday), South Parade, Sue’s Little Angel and Up The Jazz (Friday at York).

Oisin – the tall one – partners The Predictor (4.45), Dessert Games (5.15), My Little Queens (5.35) and Maywake (6.15) for Fahey’s yard at Beverley today.

HENRY CANDY IS ON A HIGH..

⭕ 2.10 Goodwood Oisin Murphy is at Goodwood, where Charlie Johnston is following in father Mark’s footsteps; his winningmost track already, with a 38% strike-rate.

It’s another family trait that distance is no object in targeting a race; Sennockian, second at Ayr on debut, is down in deepest Sussex, bidding to follow up.

⭕ 3.20 Goodwood Henry Candy, who has just hit form (3-4), steps up the Windsor mile winner High Spirited to 10f; should save ground from the one stall.

She is the each-way bet in a market dominated by Team Gosden’s odds-on Haydock winner, Al Asifah, a Frankel filly, likely odds on again.

But, when Dane O’Neill won on her 17 days ago, the ground was firm yet the time slow; the runner-up a long-standing maiden and the third a stablemate of the winner.

⭕ 3.55 Goodwood Locally-trained Aggagio has Goodwood form of 111212; only on Friday Gary Moore had a winner on the course.

First Emperor has needed 10 turf starts to get off the mark; Mountain Road has won only on AW; Pons Aelius is 1-15 on grass, with a penchant for missing strike (six seconds; two thirds).

Betdaq Betting Exchange 6.7 Sennockian (2.10); 9.1 High Spirited (3.20); 5.4 Aggagio (3.55).

OLD FLAME LOVES BEVERLEY CD

⚠️ HEADS UP: Though yesterday’s going at Beverley was described as ‘good to firm’, all seven races were run slow. Freak Out (drawn 1), Loaded Gun (5) and Yorkstone (4) were notably boxed in as leaders set a steady pace and tried to hold on to their advantage.

⭕ 3.45 Beverley Ventura Flame, twice a CD winner on firm ground, has slipped down the weights on soft to within a pound of his last success.

⭕ 4.45 Beverley With his team in form, Richard Fahey could capitalise with The Predictor, progressive since stepped up to 2m: twice beaten a neck, raised his game again, leading two out, in the Chester Plate (class 2). Back to class 4 today.

⭕ 5.15 Beverley The aids are on Kings Crown, Desert Games and Star of Lady M to try to coax that little bit extra needed to pinch a sprint. But it’s a jockey booking that intrigues me: Richard Kingscote for Aira Force. He made all at Bath for the same Lambourn stable on Friday.

⭕ 6.45 Beverley The sire Ulysses has a huge middle-distance record and Fulfilled – never out of the frame in six starts since being gelded – improved for a trip the last day and steps up again.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
