ELECTRIC GLIDE IN BLUE..
She can’t be that good, can she? I’ve raved all Spring about Blue Rose Cen as the new Enable but seeing her in action in the French Oaks yesterday, she is probably better.
The one draw in the Prix de Diane must have been a worry, even to the unflappable Christophe Head, handler of a filly in the Treve mold 10 years on, same family of great trainers.
He had to rely on jockey Aurelien Lemaitre to have patience and on Blue Rose Cen to have the stamina as well as the speed she’d shown so far.
In fact, she had both in her battery and won on the softish ground in a faster-than-average time, gliding down the rail to such effect that Novakai, runner-up at York to the subsequent English Oaks winner, Soul Sister, finished 12 lengths behind in 11th.
And Running Lion, considered England’s best at odds of 56-10, was stone last of the field of 15. The winner can’t be that good, can she?
Her winning run of Criterium, Guineas and Diane has been matched by Divine Proportions (2004) but exceeded by the Aga Khan’s Zarkava (2008), who added the Vermeille and the Arc de Triomphe.
The Wildenstein filly Allez France (1973), also won the Criterium, Guineas, Diane and Vermeille and then took the Arc the following year.
Again, like Treve 10 years ago, family Head and all connected with Blue Rose Cen now have to contemplate supplementary Arc entry in order to take on colts like Derby winner Auguste Rodin.
EMPIRE TO STRIKE BACK
⭕ 7.05 Windsor Not a bad pre-Royal Ascot card tonight from their neighbouring track and there are a three races in which I fancy a bet starting with this class 3 sprint.
Treacherous will have plenty of supporters after his win at Newbury last week but now needs to do it again up a level and also up 4lb courtesy of his fixed penalty. He only scraped home by a head at Newbury and will find life tougher here.
There was plenty to like about Nomadic Empire’s win at Haydock last time out. He finished a close up third to Raatea. That was his best effort for a while taking advantage of a falling handicap mark, drop in grade and the faster ground – all factors he should enjoy again tonight.
It’s a really competitive heat and at bigger prices I thought Justcallmepete could also go well – he’s run well over course and distance before and looks on a decent mark if able to transfer some of his recent all-weather form back to the turf.
KING REIGNS AGAIN
⭕ 8.05 Windsor Alan King notched up his 2,000th career winner last week and did it in style – Westerton giving him the landmark winner and was also his fourth consecutive winner!
He has a great chance here with Hourless who comes into this on the back of a win at Hexham over hurdles but remains progressive and open to further improvement on the flat after being highly tried in his first couple of starts.
BOLT FROM THE BLUE
⭕ 8.35 Windsor Metabolt only failed by a head at Haydock last time out and gets the chance to go one better in the closing race.
David Loughnane has his runners in good form (4 winners from his last 19 races) – and that was an excellent effort after a 199 day break. Whilst that run came on good to soft, he also has form on tonight’s forecast good.
He is preferred to the Betdaq Betting Exchange second in Two Tempting who was eighth at Epsom last time out (beaten less than 4 lengths) but his sole win from 15 starts to date has come on the all-weather.
