7-1 DARK HORSE LANDS DAQMAN NAP: It was not that Daqman near misses didn’t continue yesterday, with two second at Deauville, Secret Angel (w/p 9-1) and Spycatcher (8-5 beaten a short-head), after Saturday’s 12-1 and 17-2 places but it was all worth the effort when he landed a 7-1 nap, a dark horse by name at Haydock. His 66th winning nap of the year.

WON 7-1 DARK TROOPER

THE NEW TRAINER MILLIONAIRES

The ABC of racing riches starts with Aidan. But it’s heartening for all small yards to see B for Owen Burrows (£965k) and C for Julie Camacho (£1m) in the top 20 money-winning stables in the Flat season so far, with their horses among the four biggest earners.

In Irish Derby week, I listed the major money races to come (below). Results have put Aidan O’Brien (£4m) within an ace of John and Thady Gosden (£4.2m) at the top, so expect a battle royal in those big venues that complete the list.

WON Auguste Rodin (Aidan O’Brien, Ryan Moore): Irish Derby €712k.
2ND The Foxes (Andrew Balding, Oisin Murphy): Belmont Derby £125k.
WON Paddington (Aidan O’Brien, Ryan Moore): Eclipse Stakes £425k.
WON Shaquille (Julie Camacho, Rossa Ryan): July Cup £356k.
WON Hukum (Owen Burrows, Jim Crowley): King George V1 and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, £709k.
WON Quickthorn (Hughie Morrison, Tom Marquand): Goodwood Cup £283k.
WON Paddington (Aidan O’Brien, Ryan Moore): Sussex Stakes £567k.
WON Al Husn (Roger Varian, Jim Crowley): Nassau Stakes £340k.

FLY AWAY TO LIFT OFF

⭕ 4.10 Ayr Small field sizes are the order of the day across today’s flat meetings.

Nap of the day could be Flyawaydream in this 10 furlong handicap. The Sir Mark Prescott trained runner was a good ground winner at Chepstow last year but has also shown form with give in the ground, notably on debut at Haydock when runner up.

After a 280 day break there were plenty of positives to take out of his comeback run at Kempton last month when he finished third to Two Tempting. He was nibbled at in the market that day suggesting he wasn’t short of work and should improve for that effort.

The main danger according to the Betdaq Betting Exchange market is course and distance winner Glasses Up who has struggled for a win recently and appears firmly in the grip of the handicapper.

The race looks a lot easier with the defection of both Theme Park and Auld Toon Lune who ran yesterday and now the biggest danger to the selection may come from the Kevin Ryan trained Jumeirah King who has attracted plenty of early morning support in the market. This one remains lightly raced but crucially has form on softer ground and is interesting on handicap debut for the stable.

CELIA, AGAIN

⭕ 4.45 Ayr Lady Celia would appear to have every chance of following up on her success at Nottingham last time out where she seemingly appreciated the softer conditions and had plenty in hand at the line when beating the favourite Enchanted Night by a length over today’s five furlong trip.

Inevitably the handicapper has had his say but a rise of just 3lb doesn’t appear overly harsh on this occasion. That was also her second run for the Alan Brown stable and it could well be that the change of scenery has proven a positive.

She has plenty of out of form rivals in opposition here. At bigger odds Wurkin Ninetofive is interesting. She ran well at Hamilton last time out over six furlongs when third but the question mark is whether she will be equally as effective on her first try over the minimum distance?

HEAVY SUITS THE LAWN

⭕ 8.30 Windsor Heavy ground is forecast at Windsor this evening for a fairly modest six race card by the Thames.

On testing ground alone, I am keen to rule out several of the market leaders including Platinum Prince and the maiden Oriental Art who have both yet to show any form on ground as testing as this.

It might present a good opportunity for course and distance winner Lawn Ranger to bounce back to form. The Michael Attwater trained runner goes well here and in 2021 won on heavy ground.

He’s currently on a mark of 62 which is the same level he was when winning here in April. He has generally been running at a more competitive level since then.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
