BIG TWO MEETINGS ARE ON: Doncaster passed an inspection this morning but the going is heavy. Cheltenham’s drying this morning but rain is forecast during racing.
GUY’S STABLE IS ON FIRE
⭕ 1.15 Cheltenham (2m handicap chase) It’s one thing to know the going at Cheltenham.. another to know what’s going to act on it!
Going, going, wallet gone if you’re not careful. So check it all out.
Improvers catch the eye, and here you have Haddex Des Obeaux up 16lb last winter for two starts, leaping from a novice chase (good) to a class-2 handicap (heavy).
Very lightly raced with form figures in two years still standing of 21211 for the Gary Moore stable which is playing another ace today in the very next race.
You have to assume that he’s fit. Moore’s horses usually come to the table well prepared but he’s been absent 287 days through injury.
It would be unusual for older horses to win, like Before Midnight and Dancing On My Own (Henry De Bromhead with just two short-odds winners in 21 starts).
Notlongtillmay is another improver: three wins in a row before second in the Golden Miller at the Cheltenham festival; but now giving weight all round.
Of the lightweights, Guy is from a stable in fine form in these early weeks of the Jumps season. He’s been in the frame 16 times and has done best dropped back to around this trip.
Betdaq Betting Exchange 4 Haddex des Obeaux, 9.2 Notlongtillmay, 10 Guy
⭕ 1.50 Cheltenham, (2m hurdle) Gary Moore’s Spirit d’Aunou is in a match here with Blueking d’Oroux, prepping for a valuable handicap hurdle at Ascot just before Christmas.
GODOLPHIN-COOLMORE CLASH
⭕ 2.10 Doncaster (Futurity Trophy) We’re told that the Ballydoyle-Coolmore Guineas and Derby routes are City Of Troy for England with Henry Longfellow to stay at home in Ireland.
But how will Aidan O’Brien claw back the Lads’ huge outlay for the Frankel colt Diego Velasquez, a 2.4million-guinea yearling?
O’Brien has won 11 Futuritys, four were in the last six years, with the two he missed going to subsequent winners of a Guineas.
But the market for today’s race has ‘Diego’ only second favourite to Godolphin’s supplemented Ancient Wisdom.
Ancient Wisdom has won just a Group 3 but was third behind Rosallion at Ascot in July; and in the Lagardere at the Arc meeting Rosallion was only a length in front of Unquestionable, who is 11lb down the Ballydoyle ladder behind City of Troy.
But we’ll get into all that when I do my Two-Year-Olds for 2024, which made Auguste Rodin clear top last year. But I’ve a feeling it’s not as easy as it looks this season.
Bad ground is a worry for Diego Velazquez today. That’s why they’re betting against him. That’s why – win or lose here – measuring him against the best will be all the more difficult.
24.0 WOLF IS AT THE DOOR
⭕ 2.25 Cheltenham (3m 1f handicap chase) Balthazar King and Frodon are among the winners of this chase, which last year went to Lord Accord from The Wolf.
Neil Mulholland’s eight-year-old hasn’t done much since, which accounts for his returning to a mark within a pound of his winning rating that day.
Again Lord Accord has prepped in a hurdle race, and again The Wolf tries to win it fresh.
The weights have risen with the defection of Lucinda Russell’s Grand National winner, Corach Rambler, who instead preps at Kelso (1.29) in the Edinburgh Gin Chase (3m 2f) for the Newbury Gold Cup on December 2.
BETDAQ value 6.6 Lord Accord, 24 The Wolf
BOND’S THE NAME: 007.8
⭕ 3.20 Doncaster (5f handicap) Vintage Clarets and Glorious Angel will be supported for their one-two in the Catterick Dash a week back, because it was run on heavy (Manila Scouse behind).
But the winner has to complete a hat-trick, possible but rare in sprints because of the vagaries of such a race.
The second that day has set up a worrying sequence of 220422, and the third, Count d’Orsay, has the place-only habit revealed in his nine seconds and 10 thirds. Out of the handicap today.
They seem to have had their turns though, form wise, the horse they backed this morning, Desperate Hero, was behind Vintage Clarets at York.
I will rely on Oisin Murphy to boost BETDAQ 7.8 bet Intrinsic Bond, beaten only half a length here in the Portland on the soft ground he loves and, hampered, favourite behind Vintage Clarets at York before that one’s Catterick Dash.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
