MATCH OVERVIEW:

The Big Bash is underway on Betdaq Betting Exchange, and the action continues on Friday with Sydney Sixers hosting Melbourne Renegades. This should be a top class game, and give us a good idea where these two sides stand this season. Perth Scorchers topped the table and won the tournament last season, but these two took up the second and third spots in the table. Brisbane Heat had all the momentum in the playoffs! Last season saw huge improvement for the Renegades who went a number of seasons towards the bottom of the table.

Sydney Sixers come into the game as the favourites though. On the face of it, the Renegades have a very strong looking squad but there are massive availability issues – and we all know how limited things can get when you’re missing your star players. They got Quinton de Kock for six games, and they have an excellent spin attack with Adam Zampa joining Mujeeb Ur Rahman. They have a very old squad, but obviously that brings experience. Aaron Finch, Nathan Lyon, Petter Siddle and Shaun Marsh all know a thing or two about winning in Australia after all!

Sydney Sixers have a pretty strong squad and they will very likely be up towards the top of the table. I suppose a lot of Big Bash sides will suffer will this, but they have another squad that will suffer players leaving and switching franchise leagues. James Vince arrives after the Abu Dhabi T10, and probably will leave again – losing Nathan Lyon will be a blow to their bowling as well after he moved to the opposition here! They do have a strong middle-order and that will have to drive success.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We’re at the Sydney Showground Stadium here, this is the home of Sydney Thunder – not having this game at the SCG might catch a few out in their prep work! We had low scores here last year, and it really paid to bowl first until we had the playoff game here. The first inning scores were 139/9 (won), 121/6 (chased), 133/8 (chased), 111 all out (chased) and then 203/5 (won). This ground was the famous 15 all out from Sydney Thunder in the first game chasing the 139/9. Despite the playoff result, I wouldn’t expect massive runs here and I’d have to bowl first if I won the toss.

RECOMMENDED BET:

As I said above, we should get a good idea what to expect from both sides here with a view to the rest of the tournament. Both of them have strong squads, but they will suffer from players missing. I expect a pretty close game here, and I feel the value is with Melbourne Renegades at 2.34. I just feel that Sydney Sixers are too short and I expect a closer game than the odds suggest. Plus, I feel conditions will be a huge factor here; I would give a decent edge to the side bowling first.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Sydney Sixers have a strong middle order and I wouldn’t mind supporting them; however I feel the biggest edge here will be supporting the side who bowls first. I know we had the smallest ever total from Sydney Thunder chasing in the first game here last season, but in general you want to bowl first here. Apart from the playoff game we saw pretty low totals batting first. I make this a 50/50 game, and bowling first might be the edge that wins the game.
